That is a good idea. I had someone else suggest that I get a piece of metal and make a 90 degree bend in it and screw it to the inside of the fender to give me a flat surface to mount it to.
I would never ask to see inside someone's unit. I often stop and talk to people and if they offer to show it to me then I will accept or decline but it is not something that I would ever ask for.
