Matt Scott's article "5 Things We'd Love To See In The Next Wrangler"

I've often wanted such a vehicle too. Obviously it adds complexity in the manufacturing line, but I think it's important to note we're talking talking about not adding certain things (carpet, padding, etc.), so I would expect those Wranglers can just skip those steps on the line, which...

How to make a cheap isolated dual-battery setup for $50

Can you please post some details/pics on both of these? I would really like a time-delay on the solenoid so it doesn't start charging the 2nd battery until the engine has warmed up. Thanks, -Dan

    Overland Journal: G-Wagen

Wow, that sounds horribly bad. Check around the clubwagon forums, there are tons of guys getting up around 30mpg with 6-speeds. i.e. http://www.clubgwagen.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=2913 http://www.clubgwagen.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=3740 The cams are chain driven, so I don't see...

1999 Jeep Wrangler 2.2L Kubota diesel swap

Go for it! The diesel will be ideal. Speaking of which, how's your mileage these days? I'm still researching and learning about my options for a diesel in my future JKUR, and I'm hoping for ~30mpg. Guys are getting that in G-Wagon / 6-speed swaps. That will save me some nice coin on the road...

1999 Jeep Wrangler 2.2L Kubota diesel swap

So perfect. My 2.5Ltr TJ that I drove to Argentina only had 120hp and 140ft. lbs at 3,250rpm at the crank. The joke's on all the people that said your 2.2 would be horribly underpowered for the TJ. GREAT work! -Dan

    2 Door Expedition Wranglers?

It was great for 6 months, even fine for a year, but after two years I was a little tired of it. It never had a single problem sleeping in my ground tent all through Central and South America. I'm not saying I wouldn't go with a 2-door again, just that I'm looking for a little more creature...

    Overland Journal: G-Wagen

I've been researching and planning that exact swap. Other guys that have done it and mated it to a 6-speed are seeing 30mpg easy. Lots of the 6-speeds in later Merc sedans have the same pattern and bolt right up. Clutches and flywheels are known. They suspect mileage would be even better if they...

    2 Door Expedition Wranglers?

I drove Alaska->Argentina in my TJ and it was fantastic. In the future, I'd like to be able to sleep inside my vehicle, and maybe hide from bugs/weather in there on occasion, so I will be moving to a 4-door for that reason. Tom Shepard has selected a 2-door JK as his next expedition vehicle. -Dan

    88 4runner 7950? Too much?

A buddy of mine is selling an '89 up here in the Yukon for $4000. It's completely stock, but in very good condition. I think $8k is way to high. -Dan

    ignition disabler switch

That's what I did whenever I was leaving my Jeep for a week or more in Central or South America. I didn't have a kill switch in the cab, but I will on my next vehicle. I'll probably just put a small push-button somewhere under the carpet or seat that must be held down for the starter to crank...

    Habitat Owner's Thread

I'm assuming so as well. If they've modified the mold, I'm thinking it applies to both the J30 and J180. I'm sure they'll let us know soon. -Dan

Moving to Puerto Rico...which jeep to keep

I'd be thinking what's the Jeep situation like in Puerto Rico? Are there dealers? Did they ever get the diesel WK? What's the price of gas/diesel? Can you just take your US-plated Jeep there and drive it around? Do you need different registration/insurance? How much is it going to cost to get...

SSF556 Build Up - 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD

Do you know if anyone has ever put a 6 speed standard behind that CRD? Something from Mercedes should do the trick (they often used the NSG-370 in their late 90's and early 00's sedans - which is the same 6-speed used in the JK) Thanks, -Dan
