    Ambulance box weight?

I’m fairly sure Pat mentioned the weight of his Ambulance box and trailer in this thread… https://expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/point-five-ambo-build.134005/ It is with mixed feelings I share this thread. Ironically, when I searched it opened on post 684 from 2019 where Pat posted he was...

    Ambulance box weight?

The closest to answering your question I can can come... Weight over rear axle is +/- 6500 lbs. The relatively empty truck is 700 lbs heavier on the drivers side vs the passenger side. I'd estimate the rear to weigh 5800 lbs if the cabinets and house batteries were removed. My box is only 88"...

    97 E350 Crestline Ambo Build/Mod

My new favorite mechanics tool... Recently I picked up this older impact. Obviously, it's used, but I was rarely used after being recently rebuilt. Needless to say, not all impacts are created equal. Even as the pressure drops it'll easily spin off the dually lug nuts which were torqued to...

    Leaking air bag valves.

Experiment with different pressures. I can’t give you a number there are too many variables. Offhand I’d say the lowest pressure that’ll give you the ride height you want, and ride you want. Less is more in my experience.

SpecE450 - Red Cross ERV turned Racecar Tow Rig

I’m planning on insulating above the ceiling. I’m curious to see if it makes a noise difference got you. If it does I’ll also add soundproofing. The cab seems to be the source of 90% of the heat inside the truck,

Do I need a mechanic to remove this heater?

Post some pictures of where the lines join in… I’ll tell you how to do the right for free. I don’t trust mechanics… too many are crooks. :D

Do I need a mechanic to remove this heater?

Follow the lines under the floor back to the junction at the back of the cab. Replace those lines with a small loop of heater hose. In some cases they could just be capped, but without studying your setup, connecting them together would be best. Is it an Econoline cutaway van? I’m going to...

Rambo - GMC Ambo Conversion (Roof Raise)

Excellent. Economy seems about right. Sailing down the freeway, mostly 70 mph+, I averaged 16 mpg. I’m sure glad I’m not getting 10 mpg… or less. In a winter snow storm I managed about 20 mpg. Slow starts, reduced top speed, slow and steady… the results were surprising. :D

Some of those are very bleak miles. Glad to hear it went smoothly.

    Dually tires

Nope. 8 lug nuts on long studs hold both wheels on. Get some 6 Ton jack stands, crack the lug nuts (loosen but not loose), jack it up with the bottle jack close to one side, put the axle stand on that side, and remove the wheel.

    Cummins Canoe (A Stepvan Story)

Heck you could likely buy a dodge with a good one for less than that ;) Then part the rest out for beer money. :p

Which van to start with?? Please help

My experience has been that it doesn’t get more reliable than an E350, 7.3 PSD, Ambo... if the starting batteries fail or aren’t enough, the “Sure Start” switch, turn the key and you’re back in business. They’ll go a million miles, and a friend drove a tow truck that had been pinned at 99,999...

Which van to start with?? Please help

Yes. At least in these parts seatbelts are required on all seats.

Bob the Campulance. E350 Crestline with Roof Raise. V3 in Progress.

Once you have it all perfected, there may be others who follow in your footsteps. There are certainly trade offs to a 5’6” interior height. I understand the need, but it’ll have to wait till I’m retired, the 40 is built, and the kids are a bit older.

Has anyone installed a front hitch on a 75-91 ford van.

    Cummins Canoe (A Stepvan Story)

Very wise... don’t fix what’s not broken. Disc Brakes make brakes more of an issue for conversions. Unless you’re replacing the whole axle with one that already has them.
