Haha, I figured someone would catch that. ATL was supposed to send me the aluminum box when I ordered it for the track car so when they finally sent the right one they let me keep the old steel box. Works great though, and fit perfect. :)
I made some progress on the rear storage this weekend. Anyone doing this should note that the Ford E/F series frame C-Channels tend to splay out when the rear cross-member/spare tire mount is removed. This suggests that the frame members have significant internal stress from the factory and thus...
Just fyi- I recently took off a full set of ST/Maxx's after a blowout. They had less than 10k miles on them and the remaining 3 tires also had long (3"+) radial surface cracks in the sidewalls.
I agree that perfect suspension geometry negates the need for a steering damper from a driving dynamics standpoint, but safety is also an important concern. We're taught in racing school to keeps our thumbs on or outside the steering wheel for this same reason. A track car hitting a curb or a...
God Bless Plasma Cutters!
Now that fuel capacity has been addressed it's time to make use of the aft axle dead space. The plan is to keep a small battery bank, the air compressor, water pump, Espar, and recovery gear down there. Basically things that are heavy or loud and rarely accessed. The...
No problem. Note that the "perfect" way to do this would be with two threaded couplers and locknuts. I went the quick and dirty route because it was literally the last thing I did on the conversion and was excited to get the van on the road! This is just an extension using a threaded rod, two...
You mentioned "hopefully" so I'll add my .02:
Some simple ducting will go a long way in getting flow across that radiator configuration. Note that the engine compartment will be very low pressure, like an eddy behind a rock in a river. You might want to consider adding a deflecting plate under...
I'm not sure of the applicability but in my 96 van the 04 Sterling and VSS is the only source for speed signal to my gauge and ecu. The tranny and t-case only have the reverse and 4wd connected.
I think the older (obs) years are different than your 03 though.
I picked it up from Agile on my way back north. It's well built and has a skid plate on the bottom. Can't wait to finally give the van some legs.
Range is so variable... There's "normal" and then there's all the unplanned stuff. I'm thinking it should get ~650mi in normal conditions.
Moar Fuel
Baja made one shortcoming all too clear; fuel capacity. It got old in Utah and Nevada, but then really got old rolling up 100mi unknown dirt roads down there. So its out with the old, and hello to 48 gallons! Yes please.
I'm about to dig into this as well, can't imagine it's not plug n play (or at least pin-out the connector n' play), the Deutsch just wouldn't do that. It looks like the controller is required though, are you sure it's not in the box somewhere? If not, you can purchase them separately here (note...
