Also, if I'm understanding correctly, by reversing the springs to "under" the axle, does that mean that the weight of the trailer on the ax.el will essentially be "held" by just two ubolts on either side? In the current configuration, the ubolts just keep the axle from dropping out from under...
Yeah, I definately don't want to end up with broken springs. In order to flip the springs as suggested, do i have to weld new brakets or is it a simple reversal of the ubolt? I've never really looked at leaf sprung suspension up close.
I think Jon put these super stiff springs on it to prevent...
My newly acquired trailer had 38" tires on it and the lift to accomodate those monsters. My 315/75R16s look pretty small under the fenders and the trailer sits higher than I need it to. My only suspension experience is with coil springs and the trailer has leaf springs.
Can I remove one of the...
I recently purchased an offroad trailer and it came with an Overland Large RTT. I already have a Maggiolina Grand Tour and prefer to keep that one, so the Overland has to go.
The PO had the tent for about a year and used it several times. It's in excellent condition and looks like it really...
I have had this same dilems. 5/16 g70 chains is commonly available with grab hooks as a kit. Even Home Depot carries it for about $35. Great price. I haven't bought it because I'd like the extra safety factor of the 3/8 - just can't find it anywhere other than $100 from offroad supply sites. Any...
Just thought of something else to address. There will be an Engel 60 fridge in the trailer. Is the #10 charge wire sufficient to powere the fridge while driving without it slowly draining the trailer batteries?
This has been very helpful. Thanks. I think the best solution is:
Wire the #10 trailer charge battery wire from the #4 cable from the vehicle second battery already at the back of the vehicle. Setup up a 40A relay triggered from an acc/ign wire to the #10 charge wire. So, the trailer batteries...
I was thinking the same thing. Technically, connecting the trailer #10 charge wire to the #4 cable at the back of the vehicle would "link" the vehicle second battery and the two trailer batteris in series so it's like having 3 trailer batteries. The consequences of this really aren't that severe...
Had not considered that but it sounds like a great idea. I agree that the length of #10 wire will mitigate any risk of fast charging. I'm going to run the charge wire in the 7pin either way so I have a universal setup.
Hi. I just got a trailer and have a couple of questions regarding charging the trailer batteries.
Tow vehicle has a starting battery and an AGM battery linked via a selectable 200A solenoid. The second battery runs the winch and all accesories so the starting battery is used only for fully...
We'll be in JTree this weekend if anyone is heading out. Leaving OC on Friday morning and entering the park on the Berdoo Canyon trail. Camping in Ryan most likely. Possibly a Sheep's Pass group site. I have a white FZJ80 with RTT if anyone happens to see us and wants to say hi.
According to the specs, my 2" fiberglass ladders can bridge a gap and support the 7000 lb truck with just 2" supported on either side. That's a max gap of 44". Granted that requires a strong ledge for support. I have used them in a ramp scenario where just an inch or two were supported. They...
