    New Truck, Harsh Ride Unloaded

I'll take 16" or 17" rims and a tire with some sidewall over an 18" or 20" rim any day thanks. How about a good old 285x75x16"

I would experiment with lower psi in the tires when the truck is empty.

    Van Questions

I saw this Van but it is in CA and over budget. http://showroom.auction123.com/fam_vans_inc/inventory/3746/2008/Ford/10476237.html Some of the used 4x4 passenger vans are from ski resorts/hotels or mining companies

    Van Questions

Sometimes you can find some decent used 4x4 cargo van or passenger vans but some are pretty beat. What part of the country are you?

    Spare tire mounting options?

I have seen some conversion vans with a tire carrier that bolts to the hinge and then through the door metal. Not good for big tires or rough roughs for sure! Anyone have ideas on how to mount one 5-gallon gerry can on the back similar to an Aluminess system?

    Do you bring milk?

I bring a small container of fresh milk, some small cans of milk and powdered milk. I don't like having open containers of stuff that can leak in the ice chest so the small cartons of milk are good for morning coffee.

DIY alternatives to BedRug soft carpet mat in bed??

The bed rug/bed mats look nice and fit well. you can also get the kit that covers the side walls and wheel wells. Plywood and some cheap carpet remnants and carpet padding. I have done that many times I have done that for different rigs.

    Offroad tool kit

I carry metric and standard sockets in 3/8" and 1/2' and metric and standard wrenches in my tool bag. A breaker bar and extensions are good to have as well. I also have various screw drivers size and length and other vehicle specific tools. Good quality tools are best for travels because you...

    Interior paneling of passenger van?

Do you have windows? You might be able to use existing panels as patterns for wood etc. I have a Ford but I want to insulate the walls below the windows and and make new wall panels (wood and or upholstery/vinyl). I plan on adding cabinets later so will need anchor points for that and cargo...

    Black Bear and Lockers

You should drive your rig for a while and learn by doing. Start on easy trails and get out and look at obstacles and look under your rig to see what is happening so you learn how to pick a line. Drive in a tight circle without your lockers on and do it again and see what happens and figure out...

    Camper Interior 87 Toyota van

It is nice to have the option to cook inside in bad/cold or windy weather. At least be able to boil water for coffee and oatmeal etc and do the messy cooking outside.

    Can't take the heat!

Block out some of the side windows with reflectix type of thermal barrier and maybe paint the flat part of your roof with Henry's White SolarFlex roof coating (Reflects over 85% of sun's heat and U.V.)

Baja, Overland in an Overland, exactly 50 years ago.

Jefe What an adventure! We should get together and share some stories and pictures. I went out to Malarimo Beach in the early 80's and it was still very remote and hard to find your way. Dan

What a great trip. I was lucky to have a Dad that got me into camping and 4x4 trips at an early age. Some great times :) We had a Willys Wagon for years and did a few Baja trips. The 4x4 exploration bug never goes away:)
