    Entry Door and Roof Windows

I looked at what was on offer and asked the same question when I needed to decide on a hole size in the roof (after starting to make my own then thinking better of it!)... Ian (Unimog Adventures) suggested boat hatches as theyre watertight, over engineered and sensibly priced. I liked the idea...

unimog steering wheel vibration after tire change

At least your new tyres are recent not old stock... 2021. Re vibration, it'd have to be a tyre issue... Are there any truck/construction tyre specalists that could take a look for you?

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

I had to look on the phone weather to see what the day temp is going to be... Not much better at -11! 70% chance of snow on Wednesday! Good job you have a 4x4!! :)

Good to know it works! Great second pic too! I see you have the Scirocco 2 fans as well. Do they work well?

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Hi Paddler Ed. I plan to use either a product called Froli, or a couple of Ikea bed bases with slimline slats. We used to have the same issue with our roof top tent, and don't want a repeat of it in the truck! :)

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Happy New Year all! With a few days at home, it's surprising what can be acheved! We now have all but one of the ceiling sheets glued in place. I still have speaker wires and the TV antenna wire to run before the last sheet goes in. However, we were able to make a start on the sleping area...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

I have used Wurth Bond and Seal (in Grey) for all the exterior panels and cappings, and also for the interior 3mm panels to the timber battens. It's sandable and overpaintable. For sticking the 50mm Kingspan insulation to the inside of the Alli skin, I used Tensorgrip FS-600 (a neighbor owns a...

You'd have to be happy with that! It'll be interesting to see how the figures change with the new gearbox and different rpm's. Great pic too!! When's your next trip and where too? :)

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

An update on the antics here... With the bulk of the insulation in place, it was time to contemplate lining the Hab Box. Thermal bridging has been on my mind since the start. Much as I'd like to think there will be none, in reality a hab box that has any form of steel or aluminium in it as...

    Mercedes Overland Building/Tuning

Dare I say it, but I think a lot of it is to do with the look of the vehicle too... A company built 'Overland' truck has to look like something that has it's origins from the Dakar rally or military, where everything is twice as big or twice as rugged as it needs to be. I'm not shooting down...

    Mercedes Overland Building/Tuning

When I was last in Africa, we ran trucks on 10:00 R20" tyres and 11R 22.5" tyres. In the normal width every day tyre, both were readily available. Super Singles were rare, and we never saw any on any trucks. The trucks we were using were all being changed over to the 11R 22.5" wheel/tyre combo...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Armed with the trade plate we decided it was time to see what the truck drove like on the road. It needed fuel anyway! I'm pleased to say that it drove very well. I was surprised how well it went. Very different to when it had the crane and tray on. Much lighter which was a huge relief! There'll...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Mid April... It's no longer an option now, it's a 'must happen'! We have both accepted a job in Broome last week, and will be needing the truck to get there and live in when not working! Nothing like more pressure to send me nuts!

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

The last few days have been busy. The temp is warming which always makes the amount of energy and motivation seem to dwindle. It's also not condusive to painting, but we have managed to get on and shot blast the roof rack and its associated parts, etch prime and paint it and manage to get it...

    Layout dilemma....

We have both sides full of windows... but, theyre bonded in and about 8mm thick, so double up as rigidity for the hab box. Some are covered internally and have become walls. Because of all the fixed glass I have added a large opening rear full width door at the rear of the bed room, two roof...

    Lowly the Lorry. . .

Building your Hab Box like that makes it all come together really quickly! Before too long you'll have the hab Box on the back of the truck! Great work!

Possible driveline update OM352A to OM906LA

Hi fella. Yeah, I had a thread running on an Australian Land Rover forum that I used to frequent a lot before getting back into the world of trucks. I'd post a link to it, but I think takling about one platform on another is frowned upon... PM me if you want any more details. As for transforming...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Small update here. I'm waiting on the roof rack and cab steps to be shot blasted so they have a good surface for painting on, so while I'm waiting, Wifetec and I have got on with insulating the roof. I have also started on the sleeping area. Before the sleeping platform could go down, I had to...

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

The bigger older engines are. It's a 10.4 lt V6 long throw engine so in theory huge torque and low rev range. Being a Merc though you wouldn't know it!! A Cummins Signature has it's peak torque at around 1000 rpm, and max RPM at 1900 rpm.

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

I'd say that's perfect revs to speed. Ours will do 100kph, but the red band starts around 1900rpm from memory! It's on the list of things to address! :)
