My Defender 110 build up for South American travels

I have yet to use the HIDs at night. The ones I have are sold and branded by Rugged Ridge. I will report back once I have some over the road time with them. I do have a 200tdi.

My Defender 110 build up for South American travels

Yes, this August. To Panama will be, ideally, as fast as possible. Having a deadline of mid August would be very fast, but do-able, especially if we were able to leave a little bit sooner. Most of my friends that would be interested in going want to take a slower pace through Central America...

My Defender 110 build up for South American travels

I have a lot of flexibility in my time-frame for leaving, but right now, the goal is roughly August 1st. I would prefer to leave sooner, but a lot of it depends on how quickly I can get the truck done. In all honesty, the truck is probably ready to go as it sits right now. Everything else is...

My Defender 110 build up for South American travels

Just as I was finishing up work on the roof platform, the rain started. I held out for as long as I could, but I wasn't able to finish. The last two boards are just set in place to give an idea of the profile. I still have some finish work to do, but I think it is looking pretty good. I am not...

My Defender 110 build up for South American travels

Up front I do have stock 10 spline axles in the rover housing. Out back is the much stronger Salisbury with 24 spline. I see no need to upgrade.

    Landrover 110 camper

That looks like a great platform. I love how the roof is very similar in style to the factory safari roof.

My Defender 110 build up for South American travels

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Not much of an update today, but something is better than nothing I suppose. This weekend was supposed to be an "off" weekend for me, but I couldn't help it. I also have official news that I will need a new co-driver. My original co-driver isn't going to...

    RTT Mounting

Both ways have their advantages and disadvantages. Over the Front: Pros: Smallest footprint when open, better front-rear weight distribution Cons: Doesnt look as cool, no covered standing room under open tent, need to fab up a spot for the ladder to sit, have to stand on hood to close and...

My Defender 110 build up for South American travels

Thanks, Jay. It is a bit different than what I am used to with the 4Runner but I love it. I still look back at it as I am walking away from it in a parking lot. I think it will look even better once I get the lift in. 2" OME HD to compensate for all the extra weight. The stock springs and...

So that brings us up to date. I know that was a quick run through, but feel free to ask questions and I will answer. I still have a lot to do on this build, but I will be updating this thread as I go.

Drilling for hinges. There is a machine that does this step automatically, but the hinges that I bought were different and it wouldn't work with them. I was sad. Adjusting hinges. Door closed. Door open. This is the cabinet that sits next to the fridge. (June 26 2011) Today I...

    Question on TreadWright

I just installed a set of the Guard Dogs (MTR look-alikes) on my Defender. So far, I am very impressed. I have a couple weekends of wheeling with them but only 150 or so street miles. Offroad they have performed very well. On the street they seem to be doing fine, but I need more miles to really...
