Another axle/transfer case fluid question (sorry)

new lube will have detergents that old lube no longer has. ingredients in lubes are detergents, ,anti friction compounds etc. the oil does not break down, but these additives do. thus fresh detergents will open up old wounds. lsd additive is good for about 2 years more or less.

Looking for help with GEN1 Trailing Arm Bushings

rear trailing arm bushings very likely the bushing at the rear axle are sound, and will need no replacing. the fronts wear readily, by design. and are a 45 minute job per side. furthermore be prepared to replace split ring lock washers as those on the rig are probably no longer effective

Looking for help with GEN1 Trailing Arm Bushings

UCA's, just a wiggle check is enough to determine their soundness. better if unloaded but a wiggle check is fine either way. try to keep front as factory. there is a very sound argument that says the gen 1 parts are superior to gen 2, save for the ball joint replacement issue. I believe gen 1...

    GEN1 Replacement Key

shoot, Wal Mart , has cut a dozen keys for me. It may be the same blank as toyota. most of the time the walmart machine cuts pretty accurately.

Another axle/transfer case fluid question (sorry)

in previous years the viscosity variances were due mainly to manufacturers spec, each special a different oil for proprietary reasons..in relaity a lighter grade for cold clime and ...a lighter grade for warm climes too. there are other reasons for vis. grades unimportant to this discussion...

Custom Front Seats for Gen 2 Montero

lots of seats will fit. I'm thinking of some of the BMW Porsche seats. problem, it's hard to find a higher quality seat than what u have. mitsu did it right the first time. my gen 1 seats have a million farts in them are torn cruddy, and dirty. but are good for 10 hours drive. adaptation just...

    '98 Mitsubishi Montero Engine Swap

all good comments here. both methods have valid points. u must must take picture catalog them u must label everything. u must run the bolts back into their respective holes to store them where u know u can find them. montee uses same size bolts with different dimensions all over. so keep them...

    Any gen 3 aftermarket shifters?

if the 3 gen has the a340 series trsnsmission, like my gen1, then the winters art Carr shifter will work. generally though, the factory shifter can be rebuilt eith a bit of ingenuity

Deep water crossing - Gen 3

if ur getting water in automatic trans. it's a goner . water has a deleterious effect on clutchbfacings. aisin trans are more durable than some others but will succumb eventually. lastly automatics deal with hydraulic pressures, water don't compress. valve bodies do and water will blow seals or...

    Help identifying a coolant hose.

I disagree with this solution. trimming ends only forestalls the inevitable. it works to get u home, but cannot be considered a fix. if the ends are chipped, cracked or seperated, the entire hose will be in similar condition: leaving u stranded, with only ur assumptions to support u. take time...

    GEN1 Throttle Cable Adjustment Help

the problem is the writer is trying to explain transmission function and adjustment in one paragraph, or possibly one sentance. here is the take away. with throttle closed , engine off, the lever on the transmission should be at a specific point on its swing arch. as the throttle opens, the...

    GEN1 Throttle Cable Adjustment Help

yikes! that is some of the worst tech writing I've read in a long time. first step is visual inspection . the setting, may be ok but broken or worn cable housing or brackets will throw it out of spec. disconnect and check for smooth operation; both cable , and actuator lever on transmission...

argument in favor of gen 1 over other options

today, by a chance our swamper happened to stage a john deer 825, series utv, next to my gen 1 if the pic loads, u will see the montee , except for the rear bumper is the same length, is but 6 inches wider, has the same wheel base as the Deere. so, as I've always known my montee is simply the...

    GL-4 or Higher...?

furthermore, I have learned to use Japanese blended oils in my mitsubishi. the effect is instant and profound. for a long time I have banged the drum for Wal mart oils based on lab tests. and I still tout them as superior to many branded oils. one oil change with eneos taught me that not all...
