DC or AC- specifically suicide doors vs regular doors

Thanks guys. I think I'll just check out the two cabs at the dealer and also keep an eye peeled in grocery parking lots. Ive had three old-style extended cab trucks including my current T100 and squeezing things past the seat is getting old.

DC or AC- specifically suicide doors vs regular doors

I've read reams of opinions on the DC vs AC question, but I've never read an owner's perspective on the value of the suicide doors. Specifically, if you don't need the double cab for passengers,do the suicide doors enable loading larger items (like bikes or big gear boxes) into the rear, or is...

Flippac installation instruction on 2015 Tundra...

What's the issue with the strut retention hooks? It's not clear from the photoS. Is it the alignment with a fore-aft axis, or the angle above the horizon? I've seen installations with the pins facing both forward and backward, with the struts attached from the front or rear.

    Redesigned Flippac?

Surfboard rack I wouldn't write it off. It all depends how it's attached. Four 1/4-20 bolts going into rivnuts, maybe not. With a sturdy doubler plate on the inside to distribute the load, and care to avoid sharp edges creating a stress concentration into the glass, and it could be fine...

    Redesigned Flippac?

A well-known vendor of a fiberglass and fabric product (not AT) recently mentioned to me that there might be a better FlipPac type camper coming on the market soon. The context was to tell me that the price of used FlipPacs would soon drop due to zero demand. Though the price would have to be...

Why aren't ute or tray back style campers more prevalent in the US?

Without being ethnocentric or political, it is interesting how vehicle type popularity varies by country. U.S. and Thailand have many pickups; China has more small cabover flat beds (tray backs) and Western Europe typically favors vans for much light commercial work. I just returned from a...

    Redesigned Flippac?

I think that bolting a stainless steel or even thick aluminum flat bar, or angle with one short leg and one long leg, to the side of the cap, would help a lot with structural integrity. Through-bolt it through the steel tube in the shell. A similar doubler on the lid would be good too. So while...

    Which Subaru is best off-road?

I had a 2nd gen Forester and it always exceeded my expectations off road. However manual transmission + limited ground clearance makes crawling difficult if you want to limit both clutch slip and bashing the undercarriage, so if I ever get another Sube it will be AT or CVT. One huge advantage of...

    FlipPac mattress and "gap cover"

So my Flip didn't come with a mattress, but we've been using 3" thick tri-fold futon we have that fits perfectly footprint-wise, and is comfortable, but is too thick to leave in place when folding up. What thickness works, and does anyone have a good recommendation for light but comfortable (and...

Diet Taco Build (FlipPac on 2015 Tacoma DCSB)

Great photos and interesting to read your decision processes for configuration and mods! I'm still undecided about keeping my FlipPac because I do need an open bed occasionally, and while I _can_ R&R the camper solo, it's not fun. Interesting also about going windowless for thermal reasons. I...

Diet Taco Build (FlipPac on 2015 Tacoma DCSB)

I'm not really familiar with the Tacoma bed caps, but why is it preferred to remove them? Leaks, security of the camper mount, possible damage to the caps??? Just thinking ahead in case I get a Taco ...

    2015 Sprinter 4x4 build begins

Hi there Err ... a couple questions if you don't mind: - MPG so far? US gallons assuming you're in the States. - What was the lead time? And did you order it with exactly the options you wanted, or just pick from inventory? Was the salesperson knowledgeable about Sprinters and...

    Topper vs. Pack Rack???

+1 Seriously, FlipPacs aren't cheap (new) and lead time is long (new), though they show up used quite a bit and I think there is an EC or AC Taco shell for sale somewhere on ExPo. FlipPacs are ugly ... I can say that, I have one. But they really are a very good solution to the OP's requirements.

    Flippac torsion bar

DVexile, I think you're right about fatigue ... I was thinking more of static stress. I guess that's why they took away my slide rule 35 years ago and promoted to project leader. I thought it was career advancement, but actually they were making sure they wouldn't get sued when my stuff broke...

    FlipPac "re-sizing"

I suppose I could get my seats re-covered, new front end with manual hubs, new ball-joints, control arm and sway bar bushings, idler arm, tie-rod ends and steering damper, new shocks, Tundra front brakes and a professional detailing for less than the price of a new FlipPac or the sales tax on a...
