An easy trick to see if it’s the cowl leaking - run a piece of (high quality) electrical tape where the (warped) cowling meets the windshield. May be a good preventative measure if you do replace the cowling and it’s not very noticeable even if you’re looking for it
Apologies to ask again but will the 17” BMW wheels fit with the NAS V8 brakes? The AULRO thread said direct bolt-ons but believe some of those guys have the SCV8, the brakes of which I’m unsure about. Can’t wait to see a photo of them mounted on the vehicle
It and their Trek D2 go back and forth between Greenville & Asheville. I’ll take a closer look next time it’s over this way. I’ve seen the Trek on the road a time or two so I’ve got faith they keep them running and moving regularly
Think you may be making a bit much of it at this point but keep an eye on it. I usually run around 186-188 and have gotten to the mid 190's in warm conditions in stop/go traffic. Your temps seem pretty reasonable
With a traditional t stat you can put it and bring water to a boil to see if it opens fully. Don't see why it wouldn't work on a Rover t stat
That tire size looks great at factory height
I would investigate the thermostat. I had a similar issue when cold weather began last year where it wouldn't open all the way. Not sure if the longer time to warm up causes an issue or what. Mind you I've converted to an inline thermostat, but drilling a small hole remedied the issue. Keep an...
May want to consider building a 4.0 or 4.6 and swap it in. Frankly there aren't many straightforward engine swap options out there. I know Rover V8's catch a lot of flack but building one from a clean slate reduces the possibility for some of the regular issues that often result from past...
Looks like a great trip with a good variety of landscapes. Glad your using D1 as intended and stretching the legs.
rallye20 - those appear to be 16" LR steel wheels from the NAS Defender 110. I believe they are either NLA or very pricey if you can track them down
I have factory D1 springs in the front and D1 spring seats in the rear with similar results. Don't think mine sits quite as high in the front but I plan to fit spring isolators soon to level it out. How's the ride with the heavier rate springs up front? Would be curious what the wheel centerline...
Are you running a 180 t stat? I'm running one and very rarely even see temps over 190 F, granted I am running an inline t stat which opens earlier also. Report back after you get your fans replaced
The brake leak at the MC and reservoir is a common problem. The o rings go bad, causing the leak. All of the typical Rover vendors sell a rebuild kit and there's videos available online. It's not too tough of a process if you have another set of hands to help you bleed
