My '96 Dodge only ever had an Auburn LSD out back, open in the front. Never found anything it couldn't navigate with a bit of planning and mechanical sympathy. The LSD clutch packs would lock right up. Maybe check out a Detroit TruTrack, using gears instead of clutch packs. I don't think you...
Thanks Clutch. Notice how the gentleman’s legs are extended as he sits on the top of the box? A lower service body would drop that height to a more comfortable seating position. I think that type of set-up has real potential and your attached photos illustrate that point. ?
Added comment: since...
Service body with Callen on top? Yes, please. Would use the shorter service body, where the height matches the current height of the bed rails. This would provide for seating and a base for fold out bed(s). I like the idea of compartment storage outside rather than tasking up room inside.
Finally sold my ‘96 Ram last year with 302k miles, original engine and tranny and still running fairly strong. Who would buy something like that? My mechanic’s son. He’s out thrashing it around now. Replaced with an ‘02 Silvy 2500HD with 62k miles, plan to run it until it hits multiple 100k’s...
bloodyWEST: how did those long wheelbase rigs do through Dedeckera? I think my old Dodge (139”) would have done fine but my current Chevy (157”) seems a bit long. ?
My set-up is much like Clutch. I have a Leer 122 hi-rise, bay windows deleted. Use the same Roll-a-Cot, an aluminum tool box with hinged lid across the front of the bed for storage (mostly water), Ark Pak to power my ARB fridge. I can sit up inside which is much nicer than the cab-hi shell I...
I’ve dropped them numerous times and no problema. Just my experience. The plastic latches have torn up my fingers, though. I prefer the slightly smaller Cub Packs if you need the solid sides. My favorite are their “flat pack” soft boxes...they also fit inside your Wolf Pack.
Congrats on the truck! I have mounted an ARB awning on a cab-hi canopy using Yakima bars. I used basic 90* angle brackets where the holes matched up perfectly to the grooves in the back of the awning, made for an easy mount. ARB does sell brackets which work as well. With a 6.5’ bed two rack...
“Also random rant, what they charge for the extra zip on panels is ABSURD. Someone needs to put
zippers that fit in a regular tarp and sell them for 1/4 what rhino rack wants for theirs.”
Amen to that!
I, too, would be interested in seeing a Drifter for an 8’ bed. If not, I see that Callen is back in business under new management with an informative website. Although rather heavy, you can’t beat a Callen for offroad toughness.
