I'm putting ARE and Snugtop at the top of my list to take a look at. I happened to get a PM about a black ARE for sale for $550 in Georgia. What a bummer that the logistics just don't work out.
I thought I had a photo of your truck from the past Trophy, because I remember making a mental note...
Ah, yes. The budget! I forgot about that part, and it's one of the most important pieces of the puzzle. Not bad for $500.
I'd think that tube would weigh less than a plate/box constructed bumper. Maybe not....? Depends on how tube-high the fabricator was. :)
Good luck
The opinions will vary based on each of our priorities. Nevertheless, that bumper is quite similar to Chris's BajaTaco front cow-smasher. Tubular frame work, skid plate, winch mount, and shackle mounts. I voted yes.
The questions to ask: What can be taken away from that bumper? How does...
Here's to the film shooters! And, by God, here's to Dave once again for that valedictorian speech about the history of film and the detriment of civilization for moving on with the digital age. No wonder he approves of Bad Religion.
Now perhaps you missed the title to this thread? The 5D is...
I'm continuously impressed with all the responses, and different angles here. Thanks for sharing. Those who don't have the windoors all express that they wish they had 'em. Noted.
That home built canopy/camper is intense, and quite beyond what I care to do. What a cool project, though.
As if married life and fatherhood were boring enough, I picked up a little gumar (definition) on the side: a gorgeous Canon 5D and 24-105 f/4L lens.
If you've been paying attention around ExPo for a few months, I know what you're thinking: What’s the world come to? First KC bought a fridge...
With all due respect to Brian's help here, I'm not sure why you want to use the flash in this instance of recording a building fire at night. I'd be inclined to either use a tripod and ISO 100 (in turn with slow shutter speeds), or crank up the ISO to 1600 perhaps to shoot without the tripod...

They will do overnight camping trips in the canyon, and your other questions will be best answered by them. Check 'em out.
Thanks Mike. Our very own J_L has an A.R.E. with tracks installed. Also called artificial gutters? I've got Yak bars on control towers and landing pads now, and would really prefer to just mount those on top of the shell, virtually in the same kind of position as these tracks. Since I...
With Mario's and Martin's reports on the Gemtop, I will check those out. Martin, BTW, I read every word of your impressive posting (and all the others), thanks for your extensive input.
I do have this peculiar-truck-with-a-short-bed thing to contend with. I've found that SnugTop makes a...
Thanks for the responses.
Regarding rear visibility, uh, take a look at that first photo I displayed - we ain't got none now now except for a back up camera I installed. I do suggest one of these if you've blocked your rearward view.
KC, kid(s). :) What I've been thinking about is when...
I don't think we have a dedicated thread about camper shells for pick-ups . . . so here we go. Anyway I'm considering a shell now. So I want to hear about your experiences; the shells you've used (or have), what you like/dislike about your units, etc.
Here's our truck now:
