Yep, a flipac would be a much lighter option. They are less then a couple hundred pounds more than a standard truck shell. Definitely if you every think you might go with a slide in camper, you will want a 3/4 ton or 1 ton.

If you are considering ANY slide in camper, you will NEED a 3/4 ton or heavier truck. Do not kid yourself in thinking a 1/2 is going to work well. You will be overloaded. Even with my 3/4 ton Dodge, I am just over the GVW when loaded up for a trip. Don't believe most accounts of camper...

There are a couple threads here that talk about this and a couple other units. After reading through them, we bought one last week and hope to try it out next week. Do a search and you'll find them. I'll have a better idea how well it works after our next trip.

I believe AT specs out thicker walls than the standard Flipac. They did this to handle more extreme offroading that could cause the standard ones to crack and to allow fitting items onto the unit (awning, inside boxes, etc.).
