Diesel Conversion Options for Expo Rig

That quote right there should keep you from attempting a conversion. Even for popular rigs, I really haven't seen a true bolt in that didn't require some fab/welding and/or lots of $$$. No sure about SA but the mileage gain versus the cost difference between gas and diesel, you're likely going...

    Tigers like snow

Great pics and nice Tiger. Which model ARB bumper is that? I assume it's for a Ford as I have not seen any for 2nd Gen Dodge's with the full wrap guard.

What a Cummins powered Ram with FWC can do

Thanks guys. Many people don't believe a full size truck, let alone one with a camper on it, can do some hard trails. Just wanted to show that it can be done BUT I only did it because I have a spotter I trust 100%. Tacodoc has spotted me (as I have done for him) before and I trust him 100%. :D

What a Cummins powered Ram with FWC can do

Thought I would share this video. Big thanks for lypra for taking the video. I edited the 5 clips into one so it is easier to view all of them. This was taking last weekend up in Death Valley, going up Mengal Pass from Stripe Butte. Made it up without any problem and some good spotting from...

M1010 expo build. The Mountain Turtle

I really miss mine. I had bought one to do a full conversion on but the reality of it, I didn't have the time I wanted to dedicate to building up the rig so I went the easy route and bought a Cummins powered Dodge Ram and a Four Wheel Camper. Instead of building the rig for the last year, I...

    Diesel engine swap

Do the math, if the cost of the conversion is $8000. Currently you're getting 10mpg and lets say an average of $3.50 per gallon, you would need to drive 22,800+ miles to just break even on the conversion cost. I don't know how many miles you drive but since our truck is for camping only, it...

Looking at a new Dodge, help me decide!!! (Power Wagon vs Cummins)

If you are towing heavy or running at close to GVW, Cummins all the way, otherwise the PW which will likely work better offroad with all the cool goodies.

What tire pressure on the low end with a full-sized truck?

Our rig, ('97 Ram, FWC 8,800 lbs., 285/75-16 BFG A/T E load) I run about 35psi which has worked out well so far. Would go down more if only sand but we mostly end up in rocky hard pack so I play it safe by keeping the sidewalls away from the ground.

Looking for info: Warn classic bumper 88-98 GM c/k

Nicely done. I think I will end up building one similar for my Dodge, once I can afford the winch I want.

    '97 Dodge Ram 2500, 4x4 Cummins Powered

Thanks. I am happy how it turned out, after so many hours trying to figure out what I wanted to do. Didn't want to get too much time and money wrapped up in it as one day I want to do a bumper and winch setup.

    '97 Dodge Ram 2500, 4x4 Cummins Powered

Okay, got the light bar mounted and the light installed and wired up. Still have to go out at night and aim them. Here's what I ended up with. Used K4 LED tip lighted switches with run to a pair of relays under the hood. Green for the driving lights (55 watt each) and red for offroad...

Nice build up! Very cool how you did the storage in the bed. Quick question, what headlights are those and are you happy with them?

    '97 Dodge Ram 2500, 4x4 Cummins Powered

Now on to what I did this past Saturday. I have been looking to build or buy a light bar for the front, to hold the pair of IPF and pair of Lightforce lights I had. The IPF's are going to be driving lights as the stock headlights suck! The Lightforce ones are for offroad use. With some...

    '97 Dodge Ram 2500, 4x4 Cummins Powered

Okay, been a busy last couple weeks. Right before Christmas I bought another money/time diversion, a '64 Chevy II wagon. Sold my '65 Chevy C10 truck (not the blue panel show earlier). Then we took a trip between Christmas and New Years, camping two nights in the Valley of Fire area in...

'Nother truck question. Narrowing down my choices:

Another thought would be to spin the RTT 90* from how Dave had his and have it open over the bed (assuming you mounted it over the cab). Agian should be easy to do with a lumber rack versus having a custom made rack. You could then have some side panels (tent material) made and fastened to the...

'Nother truck question. Narrowing down my choices:

Brian, I diffinitely think option two is the most viable. I have seen this done many times. If I was going this route, I would go one step futher and get a pickup lumber rack and modify it to hold the RTT. I would then weld in a wire mesh in the area over the cab so I could put anything I...
