Having both, I find I use the torch more for heating steel than cutting. I have never mastered the art of torch cutting to get a clean cut. I do about most cutting with the plasma, when I am using a heat cutting device. Since getting my industrial 14" band saw, I do 90% of my cutting on it...
Welcome to ExPo!!! Nice to see another 2nd Gen Ram with a Cummins on the board. :) I might be a little bias to them.
Look forward to your build progress.
I might recommend Bridgestone Dualer A/T REVO. Had these on my Cherokee and LOVED them. Worked great on the road, quiet and worked more like a sports car tire BUT they wore great and worked very well offroad. It was a great A/T tire. Make sure they are the REVO series and not the standard...
Nice mods and rig.
One thing I did on ours to make it a little easier/safer to get in and out of the camper was to build a step plate over the "hole" that is left between the drop are of the bumper and Hitchgate. That well seemed like a perfect place to get your foot caught.
Here's a pic...
Having a club cab, long bed full size Dodge Ram with a 8' Four Wheel Camper on the back, the extra length in the wheelbase has not caused any problem versus dragging the hitch/bumper, which I have done many times.
Also, the longer wheelbase will greatly increase the ride comfort, especially on...
You can typically take classes at community college or adult evening school. It really helps to teach you the basics and then it's practice, practice, practice.
As for a welder, I have both a 110v and 220v welders. For what you are looking to do, a 220V rig is what you need. It will offer...
Cool truck. I have heard about that issue with the normal style brace. That DOR looks like a better way for an offroad rig. Only question I have is if it will work with the factory type tow hooks. There are brackets that bolt to the crossmember and it looks like that DOR brace uses the same...
I was the one who bought it originally to put on my Cherokee at the time. After I got it, it is WAY too heavy. I would have ripped the rain gutters off of that rig. Even on a Wrangler, it is way overkill. A full size Suburban maybe, if you bolt it to the roof, not any gutters.
AS Brian...
Don't have pics of the bed but here is what I did in the camper.
This is what prompted me to do the following upgrade.
And I used this on the plates where they hit the wood
Not too worried about them pulling out anymore. :D
I am talking in the bed. I made the holes near the "pinch rail" under the bed (near where the floor and sides meet), since it would be the strongest point. I then used large diameter washers to help keep them from pulling through. The camper I modified to add large plates to distrube the load...
N-Fab makes cab length and full length ones. They are not true rock sliders but do offer some rocker protection. I really haven't seen true rock sliders for any full size rigs, for the most part. Most are custom fabbed.
Cab length...
I would say you're good to go. Our FWC is using the cast eye bolts like you and just using turnbuckles to the camper. We have had it twisted up fairly good without problems.
