A Dusty, Windy Thanksgiving (LR3 in Death Valley/Mojave Nat'l Preserve)

Looks like for most of your trip the winch was not really an issue. Especially since you were not alone. I find I use mine mostly to get others out of a bind but still nice to have on the vehicle. I rode dirt bikes for years but lots of falls and awkward spills really moved me toward 4 wheels...

    New Defender News

I remember my early Toyota truck that had manual locking hubs that had to be turned to 'lock in' for 4 wheel drive. Very awkward to use and they had to be engaged periodically to keep them from freezing up if they were not used often. I really like the 'buttons' (knobs) on my LR3 so I make the...

might have been a better option to have the window open and the box/storage be inside. really like my Front Runner ladder on the back not on the side

I didn't read all of the answers but a thought comes to mind. How deep can 4x4 vans get you? All the way to the bottom.

    Land Rover ideas for Jeeps

When I was first divorced and had to 'suddenly be on my own' two things I bought were a Wok and a sewing machine. Learned to cook in the Wok and to sew. Two very necessary skills to make it the world. Like many places guys were looked down on if they didn't take shop and tried to take home...

    Land Rover ideas for Jeeps

That is what I see as a problem with the new Defender with the box and ladder on the side. The things with Jeeps, or at least the ones I have seen, and stuff on the sides is that the stuff is within the fenders of the older ones, petrol cans and such, not so much with the newer versions. We have...

    cracking solar panel mounts

Just a thought, I made some brackets from aluminum for mounting on my M416 trailer. The vibrations of off road driving caused them to crack at the bends. I made some from flat plate steel and the issue was solved. The idea of making the brackets for your use from fiberglass may be much better...

    Shower Tent/Privacy Enclosure

Fizzles, sort of like flavored Alkaseltzer. I do remember them. You can still get them. https://www.amazon.com/Zotz-Fizzy-Candy-Assorted-Flavors/dp/B0741G2B6N/ref=sr_1_9?crid=KMB8CUVL04AV&dchild=1&keywords=fizzies+candy+drink&qid=1605729559&sprefix=fizzies+candy%2Caps%2C200&sr=8-9#customerReviews

    Land Rover ideas for Jeeps

The velcro is a great idea as I can switch patches to whatever I am wearing by simply sewing the hook or loop part of the backing to what ever I am wearing at the time. Let us know cost including shipping and we can go from there. Thanks

    Shower Tent/Privacy Enclosure

the rack mount does limit use, as in where you want the water if you are getting in and out of the vehicle. They can be a bit pricey. People are more tame and most do want less exposure so the roof is probably important for some of the species. This one gives you options...

    Water Storage for a 5th Generation 4Runner

Four Scepter 2.5 gallon containers. Two on the roof rack in a holder that I fabricated from angle and two inside behind the front seats. Also some various 16 0z bottles from Costco that fit in various places. Use those for drinking water and coffee. Also have a Watersport shower that rides on...

PSA : InReach on sale at REI

I will state that for the piece of mind it gives it is worth it for the subscription but I did not know there was a maintenance fee as well. Apparently for those that travel solo or go very far off the track and have someone waiting for them this can be a lifesaver.

    5 Gallon Water Can Covers?

You can run a cable through to keep them from walking away but secure them to something that cannot be moved. Check out 'Jerry can covers' under Land Rover ideas for Jeeps on this forum. Lots of ideas there.

    5 Gallon Water Can Covers?

I have one of those canvas covers that I never used, bought it for a desert trip. Sitting in my storage area waiting to be used. Be willing to part with it if you can't find any.

    Last resort fire starter?

I make fire starters from paper egg cartons, paraffin and either sawdust or paper from the shredder. Works fine and will even start damp wood. Like a big candle. After match lighting it burns for about 15 min. Road flares cost too much.

    Land Rover ideas for Jeeps

The idea of carrying two spares is often (for extended trips far from available tires) a good idea but many are concerned with the additional weight. Carrying just the tire without the weight of the rim might help to solve that problem or possibly create new ones. On the roof rack the tire can...
