Thanks for all the replies so far. (Even the deleted ones.) The V6 seems like a good engine.
Does anyone really think jeep will have a diesel engine option in the first quarter of 2013? It would be worth the wait but the Mrs. would be most unhappy if I convinced her to wait 3.5 months for a...
So the Mrs. is looking at a new Grand Cherokee Limited and her engine choices are the Penstar V6 and a V8.
Does anyone know about the reliability and durability of these two engines?
P.S. I drooled over the Rubicons while I was there. I thought they were more expensive than they are. Not that...
Sounds like you need a four door.
You and the Mrs. will not be happy fighting a two door, car seats, kids. Because of that you may find you are not going and doing as much as you'd like.
IMHO get the Ford and when your shop is set up sell the power trains to offset the cummings purchase price.
Not enough power to pull a trailer. Our camping is 50/50 trailer and off road vehicle camping.
Thanks chilliwak, With what I have in mind the only visible difference would be the disc brakes. I want to keep it looking just like it does.
There is some truth to that.
The swapping in of a 408 is looking more and more like the way it will go. Found a crate motor built for trucks. I can pull one and switch the accessories onto the new one and install.
I hear you on a hemi or newer engine swap. I have friends that tow with Hemi's in new power wagons. They do well.
This is pure emotion but...
I just love the sound of the older V8 burbiling while crawling across the desert at just above idle. :)
I'd want the 440 for towing power. Not much pulls a trailer up a steep hill like a big block.
The short term mod I want to do are to switch from drums to discs. Trying to find out if there are off the shelf parts for this.
Just picked up a truck and it came with dual batteries and a big knob under the hood that let's me pick. Battery 1, Battery 2, Both and off.
How does this system work? Should I turn it to both and forget it or?
Yes it has the original 360 in it with 125,000 on the clock. It really is in fantastic shape. The fireman who it owned before me kept a repair/maintenance log in sharpie on the inside of the hood. So I know that in 11-78 he replaced belts and hoses for the first time. :sombrero:
My buddy and I...
Picked up a near pristine stock 73 Power Wagon (Smog exempt here in Ca.) and it needs some upgrades. Drum to disc brakes, thinking about slipping in a 440 ci in place of the 360, winch and some new leafs.
Anyone have a Dodge Forum or info source they would recommend for this era truck?
Here's...
Picked up a 73 Power Wagon and on top of the 360 CU engine is a 2 bbl carb.
How much HP and torque can I feasibly get (if any) by changing the carb and manifold over to a 4 bbl carb?
Not trying to go faster just more pulling power.
I'm a fan of the tailgate.
It's a table, chair, cook shelf, wash shelf, bar, food prep area and on and on. The trailer floating is not an issue for us as we live and play in the desert and rivers are rare.
One poster earlier suggested camping a few times first before deciding. That is pretty...
Just did that. I saw no evidence of a fried fuse. Do you happen to know which fuse it is? I don't have an owners manuel nor can I find it on the internet.
