2 Gallon Rotopax failure, leaking - UPDATE - received replacement

The failed one did have a date stamp on the side that I didn't notice before. It was covered with some dust from the last trip. Looks like it was made in October of 2014. The replacement one is from 2016. I filled it with 1.9 GL this morning and all is well so far.

2 Gallon Rotopax failure, leaking - UPDATE - received replacement

Guys I apologize, the date stamp on the new 2GL one is in a totally different place than the 4GL... I may have overlooked it on my leaky 2GL one and it may well have one. I will check it out more closely. Is fake Rotopax a thing? Having had this in hand next to my other ones, I doubt this one...

LED flashlights that use regular batteries or rechargeable? (early 2017 edition)

I mentioned headlamps in an earlier post and I know a few others have as well. This is a good one, currently on sale, though they're out of stock and won't ship for a few weeks. https://slickdeals.net/f/10140668-black-diamond-spot-headlamp-2017-model-29-96-f-s

2 Gallon Rotopax failure, leaking - UPDATE - received replacement

I hope it was just a bad run. Weird that there are date stamps on both my 4GL ones, but not on the 2GL. How can one tell when it was made? Anyway, this new one just seems to be better made, the seams look more finished. I filled it this morning on the way to work and it's going to be sitting...

2 Gallon Rotopax failure, leaking - UPDATE - received replacement

Well Rotopax came through for me. They sent a replacement 2 gallon can, plus a couple extra gaskets I had asked about earlier. I received it just over 48 hours after contacting them about it. I'd say that's some great customer service. The new can visually just seems like the seams are higher...

2 Gallon Rotopax failure, leaking - UPDATE - received replacement

After I got in touch with them via FB, they called me and they will be sending me a replacement free of charge. I just need to send a photograph of my failed one rendered definitively dead and unusable (i.e. drill or cut a hole in it). I'm thinking rinsing out with water and using a non sparking...

    Do you crumple or fold?

This is what I've always done, except it goes into a lightweight cotton laundry bag loosely stuffed rather than hanging up.

2 Gallon Rotopax failure, leaking - UPDATE - received replacement

I'm curious if any of yours are 2GL ones? Or other sizes? My 4GL have been fine so far in the same conditions. I am waiting to see if FB gets me some response, if not I'll try to call them. Interesting, thanks for replying. I always try these out with some fuel around town before I rely on...

2 Gallon Rotopax failure, leaking - UPDATE - received replacement

Do you have the 4GL or 2GL? It failed at the bottom seam, next to the thick round molded area where you would join two of the 2GL ones and pivot them together. I have used the 4GL in similar conditions and treated them the same, without any failure. I have had leaking at the cap, but never at...

2 Gallon Rotopax failure, leaking - UPDATE - received replacement

I have a couple of 4GL Rotopax fuel cans, but sometimes you just want a couple extra gallons of fuel for peace of mind. I thought I had come up with a great solution to carry two gallons of fuel, a 2GL Rotopax fits perfectly in the cargo box on my Xterra. Unfortunately my 2GL can failed...

LED flashlights that use regular batteries or rechargeable? (early 2017 edition)

I have a larger 3C flashlight in the truck. But my headlamps are the ones that actually get used. They are just much more useful than a handheld flashlight for almost any task, except clobberin' I suppose. I have had good luck with Black Diamond headlamps...

Any new info on tred pros

I used my Tred Pros this weekend with success, although it was a pretty easy recovery. We were camping in the desert at the end of a fairly sandy road and a Honda Element had tried to turn around just down the road from us. The RR wheel was a foot in the air and the LF was digging into the...

1st Time to Moab and 5 days to plan it.....What are the best trails?

No problem, just wanted to make sure no one thought they could expect to find primitive camping any old place along that route. Cool trip report BTW! OP, looks like you'll have some good weather. Maybe a bit of rain at the beginning / end of your trip. We'll be headed down a little west of...

1st Time to Moab and 5 days to plan it.....What are the best trails?

I may be reading this wrong, but this sounds like you're thinking you can camp along the White Rim for free. That's definitely not the case, you need a (free) permit for day trips there, and there are fees for the campgrounds, which quickly get booked months in advance...

12 Volt On-Board Air Compressors What's Out There?

I've been lucky with mine too, had it for 11 years now. I did recently put standard air fittings on it since the original hose was leaking too much air. It works so much better now, almost like getting a new one. I think I paid $30 or so for it at the time. I wish I had bought a few of them...

    Non-touristy quick dry clothing

That looks nice... I'm between M and L waist sizes (usually wear 34 but sometimes 36 depending on pants). Do these run true to size, or smaller / larger? The pants I currently have that are 100% synthetic get funky really quickly. As in, you can wear them half a day, nothing high exertion, and...

"Lola" - WreckDiver1321's 2005 Frontier CC/SB Nismo Build and Adventure Thread

Lots o' dust here in UT... my '06 Xterra was throwing a P0448 code. I didn't replace anything, but did blow a whole lot of dust out of the valve and charcoal canister, and added a small filter near the stock hose location. Parts links here. Routing the hose behind the tail light is probably...

    Sleeping in your vehicle

Where are you located? What time of year / weather will you be camping in? I have slept in my Xterra from ~5F to ~55F night time temps. When it's cold enough that bugs aren't an issue, windows down a little bit to reduce condensation. Cool dry desert, all windows closed to keep dust out...

Recommended lightweight, highly packable, "warm weather" sleeping bags?

Looks like it must be 76x62. I'm 76" tall, so probably too short for me, but I could see this being useful in a hammock or as a quilt.
