    School me on toilets

Sorry, I probably could have worded that better. By "single use" I meant single purpose... the PETT is only a toilet. Space being at a premium I like it when gear serves more than one purpose, as long as it does it well. The bucket as described in this post can be and has been used for other...

    School me on toilets

Dozer Dan, my wife was also very dubious about the bag concept but is now fine with it. It has allowed us a lot more options of places to camp. Our system is simple and cheap: Cat litter bucket plus a standard toilet seat with lid removed and four pins screwed to the bottom to keep it in...

inflating tire, cubic feet of air in tire and in air tank and psi

http://amzn.to/2crfPQd IMO just get one like luthj already posted. Best bang for buck. I've had one like this for a decade. And it does not take an hour, takes just moments.

inflating tire, cubic feet of air in tire and in air tank and psi

If you get a 12V compressor definitely get one that hooks to the battery as linked above. Much better than the cig lighter ones, not much more money.

    Stormproof lighters?

I have not had good luck with any torch style lighters at higher altitudes. Unfortunately almost all of our backpacking is over 8500' so they're not reliable when you need them. Here's a review I found that confirms what I've experienced...

    Carrying extra fuel

Rotopax are expensive, I purchased some blemished ones for 1/2 price though, so for me it was a good deal. I like how low profile they are. No need to use their mounting system though. You can come up with something for much less money that works quite well, as Martinjmpr mentioned above, or...

    Carrying extra fuel

A 285/75/16 (basically the same diameter and width you're proposing) tucks up pretty nicely on my vehicle, so I'm spoiled I guess. I can see why you'd have to move it up there if it doesn't fit under. Pretty sure my spare weighs more like 80 pounds though, not 60. I don't have jerry cans...

    Carrying extra fuel

I haven't crawled around under an Explorer, but why do you feel you need to move the spare to the roof? Is it really hindering your clearance, and really that vulnerable down there? Not a fan of putting a spare tire (or anything with a lot of weight) on a roof, but maybe that's just me. I...

Tiny BBQ's. Any good ones? Worth bringing?

Anyone else have this? I got one for 50% off and we love it, have used it on several occasions. It's not "tiny" but it packs pretty compactly. Nice that it can be used freestanding without a table too. We have cooked steaks, chicken, salmon, brats, eggs, spam and bacon on it so far, all have...

PVC sleeping platform in a 2010 Xterra X

Nice, thanks for the reply. Really cool that one person can lift it out. I am curious about headroom... I'm 6'4" and it's nice being able to mostly sit up inside, but it's probably not the end of the world if the floor were raised. On the other hand my wife is a foot shorter than me, and...

PVC sleeping platform in a 2010 Xterra X

Looks really cool, I'm interested in hearing how you like it. I also have a 2nd Gen Xterra and have just used the seats folded flat + an 8GL actionpacker tote to make a sleeping surface. Works great, but you have to remove pretty much everything behind the front seats to use it for two people...

    Show me your camping chairs

https://gcioutdoor.com/recliners/everywhere-chair-hillside-adjustable-chair/ Love these chairs, we have used them camping and concerts where a low chair is required.

    Opinions needed: Xterra, or alternatives?

The user rayra mentioned has >50K posts on that forum, so that's a lot to wade through to try to find anything helpful. So here's a thread with IMO a much better signal to noise ratio: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1245618_.html Have you tried driving some vehicles yet? I was comparing...

    Opinions needed: Xterra, or alternatives?

Normally I find myself nodding in agreement with many of your posts, but I could actually feel myself getting dumber while reading that link. There's got to be more useful discussions out there. For a budget of $8k, a 2nd gen X in my opinion would be a great choice. As mentioned before...

Looking for roof box with unique demensions

The only lightweight plastic cargo box I've seen that's somewhat similar to those dimensions is the Thule Sidekick https://www.thule.com/en-us/us/products/carriers-and-racks/boxes-and-baskets/roof-boxes/thule-sidekick-682-_-682000 Not really what you're asking for, but you could use that and...

    G4Free Ultralight Camping Chair

Being right around 200# that would make me a little concerned. Though they do say 100kg in another spec on the same page.

Using a rifle case(s) for roof storage?

I have thought of doing something like this too, but keep coming up blank as to what I'd carry in them. They're great for carrying... rifles. And shotguns. But not a lot else that I can think of. If it's thin enough to slide under a roof rack, I can't picture carrying much bulky stuff in it...

NC to OR on the TAT in my 4Runner

Just keep in mind that they're not really intended to be driven this early in the year either, and much of the routes will be blocked by snow. I guess AZ might be the exception.
