    Yaesu 8900 / 8800 extended transmit mod

I have mod'd my Yeasu 2900 so I can use it with the events in Baja Mexico....the fact that I can also use it in the case of an emerg where no other comm means is aval is a worthy bonus. And I agree, to fine me I have to be alive. At that point I will be happy to pay the money.

Close, But So Far...A Trip to Arches, Well Kind Of...

The pic of your daughter working on the truck is great...I like that she has the tool kit and will grow up comfortable around vehicles. Looks like a perfect family outing and well paced to keep the little one having fun.

Anyone actually broke their solar panels on a roof rack?

So in my single 24v panel vs 2-4 of the 12v panels folks talk about having more than 1 panel is good in case things break.....but how often do these panels break? I had 2 panels on top of my 10ft tall Sportsmobile and here in the desert southwest I often had tree branches rubbing the panels but...

    Thoughts on using 24v panels??

So many choices...no wonder people get in a quandary with solar :) I like the idea of 1 24v panel for ease of install but I understand the concern over something happening to my 1 panel vs 2 smaller....off road I think that is a very valid concern. I can't seem to find smaller 24v panels, the...

    Thoughts on using 24v panels??

Thanks for joining in Idahoan.... So are you saying I SHOULD go with a 24v panel and a MPPT controller that can handle that voltage? Remember we are talking about placing the panel on the roof of a 70 surburban with a perm mount (nothing tilit-able or removable) so I can run a ARB 63L fridge...

    Thoughts on using 24v panels??

great write up thanks... So I took some measurements and I have 42in x 60in space to work with between my roof rack rails. So as much as I like that deal on Amazon for 2 145w panels they are 29x61 which means I could only fit 1 of them :( I did find 85w monocrystaline panels (gotta learn the...

Alternative to big $$$ drawer sliders?

there is a great thread around here on rear storage setups and a few people did their own slides using roller blade bearings and 1in sq tubing. I bought 100 of the bearings dirt cheap and the tubing isn't bad....now I just have to build :)

    Thoughts on using 24v panels??

Big question......how bad is it if a roof rack cross bar cast a shadow over part of the panel???? So I think this is the system I want and would be happy to hear what everyone thinks before I order it all up...Also if there are any well trusted sources please let me know: MADE IN THE...

    Thoughts on using 24v panels??

So I think this controller will work with either 12v or 24v panels (understanding they actually make 18-36v) for $230 and I think I need some remote display...

    Thoughts on using 24v panels??

Ok I am happy to admit to not being the sharpest crayon in the box... First off no 24v anything on my rig...I would simply pick a MPPT controler that can handle the higher input of a 24v panel...after that all 12v down the line. I have about a 48in by 48in space to place my panels..I will post...

    Gearing up for Baja 1000?

You can spend money on a "race radio" from a number of companies that will work in the 150 mHz range. But honestly since you are here on Expo and might enjoy remote area travel it is very much worth getting your tech level ham license (stupid easy) and then getting good 2m radio for around $100...

    Thoughts on using 24v panels??

So it is time to put together a solar setup on my 70 burb. I live in phoenix so gotta make use of the sun :) I already have a big Sears Plat/Odyessey battery and a dual batt system. My old burb has a cool vintage roof rack that I need to measure and will post a pic of to give folks the idea of...
