this is liking asking "what is the best 4wd?"
Are you using it in the vehicle only or will you hike with it also?
Do you already own a netbook, tablet, smartphone or such?
Are you looking at USA only, or will you go to Mexico & Canada?
Do you do mainly daytrips & weekends on established 4wd...
great write up from actual use and worth a ton to those of us looking to travel like you guys someday.
thanks also for the model numbers as refernce so I can upgrade my setup
I agree completely on the Zebralights and I will say these are tough enough that you just won't destroy them.
In my vehicle I have a 12vdc charger with 4 eneloops and that covers the 3 lights in use by the family as we rarely run down more than 1 unit at a time.
They also make a flashlight...
I have camped & run trails with Waymon and this trailer. Always very well cared for and fun to watch this trailer go everywhere we wanted. Great setup and someone is getting a killer deal.
Good luck with the sale.
Very cool use of our rigs and hiking to get to see history come real.
Thanks for the write up Mark and looking forward to checking this out myself.
Like so many things in life a little thing becomes a big thing in the end....a few feet of elevation. Beautiful airplane for sure.
this is great as I love my tool rolls and was scouting out another option...
Even Jonathan Hanson mentions ORTT quality rolls in the Overland Tech articles on the Ultimate 1 tool box kit.
I just got my Exped MegaMat and slept on it in my living room on a tile floor.
Best Mat EVER
I have a really bad back, a messed up hip and a fake leg that means after 2-3 nights of camping I am usually so sore I am not enjoying a trip anymore.
Since I work nightshift and get home in the middle...
Actually Jonathan they are talking about the shovel by Aluminess
it is all Aluminum, has a nice size spade and the T-handle design reminds me of the Rover shovels used in the Camel Trophy, much nicer design than the standard D-handle.
Sportsmobile doesn't have them listing on their website, nor...
Someday I would love a chance to tag along with you guys....
Death Valley is someplace I really want to go but each time I start planning there is just so much to see that I end up picking somewhere else to go play.
Great write up as always and a bit sad to realize this is the last trip we will...
well I have been following ol' earl and just dropped some coin on one
looking forward to giving it a workout and very happy to see that OziExplorer has an Android version so I can use all my trusty maps I already have.
Waymon your rig did great running around the test track at the Overland Expo...in comfort and style no less.
It was fun to get it all crossaxled and see how much flex you have in that setup.
Rule #1 is always go with what you HAVE vs waiting to build something...mainly just so you can spend more time in the outdoors vs the garage.
But having said that there is also the debt issue of something 2011 vs something older that is paid for. That is a bigger life question.
I will say your...
I would be all over this tire...for a bit less than the $375 ea on ebay that is.
At $200-$250ea, well I would buy 5 no problem.
Lots of us with older rigs can fit a taller tire as long as it is skinny, too bad that is tough to find now days.
I currently run a 255/85/16 BFG M/T and always wish...
On the fridge I would really recommend a dual door top loading fridge freezer on a slide out drawer.
That would give you max utlity and use of space and also the best cooling option.
Of course National Luna is the cream of the crop and I am sure you will see plenty of options at OX13 this...
Well Scott I am with ya on the drool factor....this rig is under $8000 and is seriously making me reconsider my old suburband engine swap idea. I love Toyota build quality and it is an auto trans also.
New in 1970 my blue burb cost $3441, had a curb wgt of 4113lbs
Loaded for a trip is it 6675lbs with a 7500 GVW without any suspension or tire upgrades.....I'm happy with that :)
Oh and Nick (Nobin here on Expo and elsewhere) has the orange burb & hits the scales at 7800+lbs but we won't pick...
Wow that is super cool that you posted up....what a great family history.
And as a person who passes through Miami Az on a regular basis I will find that door and get a pic soon.
Again thanks very much and welcome to Expo!
Go to 33:40 for those of you who have seen the Panama part so you can...
