Now we are getting into some truth...
Matt likes cool rigs.... me too.
Since 2007 when I got my FJ Cruiser and got bit by this off road bug I have owned:
A Sportsmobile, a 75 series Troopie and now a 1970 Suburban.
With the SMB I got it to help others and enjoyed the rig but not the payments...
I am an ICU RN and also work Surgical Recovery....I am around needles and those who use them all the time.
Not sure how I missed this thread way back in March but let me go on record that self use of a suture kit by someone who does not suture regularly is such a bad idea I can't begin to think...
Light reflection into the drivers eyes would be the greatest concern.
Heat is another as the effeciency drops as the temp rises...but powerfilm style panels work best under high temp conditions according to the reseach I have seen.
I really like this idea but glare into my eyes is what would...
4 time is 5 years....Scott posted it for sale in 2008 and this is 2013.
Not picking on you as I agree this is a great vehicle. Just a shame to see it keep changing hands as each of the owners have been great people and ones I thought would be able to afford the money & time to travel in it.
Of...
I bet it is the only Rally fighter with a tow hitch :)
Jay and family are great people and his kids are growing up with amazing memories and experiences.
It is funny how we all justify what we want instead of just admitting whatever the plain truth was.
For me I bought my 70 Burb because I love the look of my 72 chevy truck I got from my grandfather, it has a ton of interior space, is dead simple to fix and makes me smile every time I walk...
I wonder what the record on web forums is for the most times the same rig has been sold?
Then again this really isn't the "same" rig as I remember it from back in the day and each owner seems to have made it better along the way.
Good luck with the sale.
the best awning I have used/owned has been a Hannibal
it has no legs so nothing to hassle with when setting up
also you can get side walls and create another room or extra area to keep bugs out,
Of course you will have to either wall mount it or create some kind of brackets.
I also had a Fiama...
Loren your trailer setup is really looking incredible. Sounds like you are getting some serious use of out it also.
Tell more about this Starboard stuff?
Another vote here for the exped mega mat....I even tried 2 REI 3.5in sleeping pads stacked and it wasn't as comfy as the single megamat. The square sides really make a difference.
I am just worried that once my wife tries the megamat I will have to pony up for another of them :)
I understand ya...
Hey Tim, I always get excited when you post a trip report...regardless of rig, or number of wheels you have under you the pics and writing style really make for a great read.
Another great write up my friend and thanks for taking us along.
Really great advice guys and a wide range of thoughts on paint...which is ok with me as I like to look at all my options.
My budget is not set in stone and I think I am in more of a mental bind due to having 2 competeing concepts for paint quality.
On my 70 Burb it will get desert pinstripping...
Anyone besides Brian-Goodtimes in the basecoat/clearcoat camp?
I have been reading alot on the autobody forums (there is a forum for everything of course) and those guys go on and on about how much better a bc/cc is since you can colorsand any runs/orangepeel/mistakes and reshoot before you...
really great write and never feel bad about a long post when it has that much quality info
Over the years I have to say I have learned many of the lessons you have and would agree with almost all you said...and I am building my rig to match those thoughts.
It is a huge value to all of us to...
Not looking for pro's here that have their own shop...although advice would be welcome.
Looking to hear from anyone who has painted their rig at home.
Also folks who have done their own bodywork.
It is time to do paint & bodywork on my 70 burb and on my granddads 72 chevy truck...so in order to...
I have used the speckled plates and didn't like those...
used the MSR plates and didn't like those...plus lots of money for a plate..
been using burner covers as the are cheap and nest well..but they lose heat quick so food gets cold.
Been thinking of using heavy duty pie tins as the have a...
most of our fridges have the cooler plates around the sides..
