    Bedside separation?

I need to look at the Toyota tailgate latches. But most trucks use the tailgate as a bedside stiffener. The way the latch locks onto the bedside it supports it. I remember 20+ years ago there were bed side stiffeners that were recommended if you were to run with the tailgate removed.

    Infinity qx56 or qx80 a patrol

The 2017 Armada is even closer to a Patrol. It is a decontented QX80. The first QX56 was based off the Armada platform (stuff added to try and make it a luxery version), the second time around the Armada is based off the QX56 but is decontented for the Nissan customer instead of the Infiniti...

    No standing headroom: Deal breaker??

For as much full time use as you describe, go big. Low roofs are good for weekends, not for living nearly full time.

    No standing headroom: Deal breaker??

I'm about in the same boat. Currently doing the SUV thing and looking for a bit more room. Glorified weekend trips are my plan. Looking at the road trip factor the lower roof punches a smaller hole in the wind. And traveling out west where the cruise gets set at 75 (or better) I'm digging...

    Automated van slider kits?

That door can't be 800 pounds. That would not be movable on any slope. 800 pounds is what a large motorcycle weighs

    2006 R51 Pathfinder

I always liked the Pathfinder. I would have preferred one over the Xterra I have now. The only reason I didn't get it was it cost an extra $10k over the Xterra new. And I was buying new. As much as I like the Xterra, I wish I had gotten the Pathfinder instead. The front locker for the...

    Transfer tank for E350

Being a 2009 you are dealing with an OBD-II system. It monitors evaporative emissions. It will throw a check engine light if there is a small leak in the evaporative system. So I would be careful about how you splice in a transfer tank. But my thoughts... That extra port may be a tap for...

    Beefed Up Half-Ton Suspension?

I once hired a guy to do a block wall for me. Was doing concrete and block work with a half ton chevy. Noticed I worked on stuff. Asked about putting more spring on the back. I pointed out that more spring won't do any good as he still has a half ton axle, a half ton frame, half ton brakes...

DIY A/C when camped (ice box air comditioner)?

That's not a swamp cooler. Swamp coolers are evaperative cooling systems. Fiberous pads (originally shreaded aspen bark, now mostly cardboard type material) has water dribbled down them. As the water evaporates it cools. The offest to that is it makes the air very humid. Thus the swamp...

How far can you get with a 2WD and a shovel?

Growing up it was amazing where I could take a '78 camaro on 205 street tires. A gutles 305 V8 and 2.41 highway gears kept from ever putting any good torque to the ground which kept the tires from ever breaking loose and spinning. Mushy 70's suspension also helped keep even ground pressure on...

    4x4 van insurance

I did a stated value policy with Hagarty for my boat. It was pretty painless. That's the most valuable vehicle in my house, getting close to what all the others combined add up to. I ran the policy by my regular insurance agent to see if they could beat it. They looked it over and said it...

Conflicting info on batteries - starter plus auxiliary

I don't worry about mixing batteries so long as they are being charged. Gel takes a lower voltage? Did you do anything to the alternator to change the voltage for a gel? Nobody does, and they work just fine. Now mixing them with the engine off for extended times, I won't do that.

    Importing Nissan Patrols

Less than 25 years old. Getting them here is still about the same. The feds get involved. That is where you are not going to get to drive it. More then 25 years old the feds no longer care and it is a state then with getting it registered. Several years back there were a lot of Penzgauers...

    Light bar vs spot lights.

Look at what the Baja racers are running now. They need good light for going fast in the dark. The LED light bars have all but replaced the traditional spot light. Old Halogen spots are long dead, there are still some killer HIDs making some big light, but the LED light bars are the ticket...

    Importing Nissan Patrols

None that I know of. The Patrol following in the states isn't as strong as Rovers or land cruisers. I'm sure it can be done. The key thing is age. Over 25 years old and it is no big deal. Newer than then that is the problem. Now the issue of finding a 25 year old off-road vehicle from...

Aux input on factory Ford radio?

Did they quit making the cassette tape adaptors with the aux cord hanging out of them? I used them all the time back in the 90s.

    Ford V10 reccomendations and advice

Couple of things I want to point out. When you see references to newer V10 and the 5-speed automatics, those are the newer 3-valve engines. Without actually looking it up I think they have an extra 80HP or so over the older version you have. I remember an old neighbor who had a V10 motorhome...

Importing Car Parts into USA from Canada

DOT is the replacement name for ICC. Interstate Commerce Commission. Both are the same thing. They are there for regulation of commercial transport across state lines. IF you are not commercial, it doesn't matter. There regulations are good guidelines and other areas adopt DOT guidelines...

    Ambulance rear ac/heater delete?

Not knowing how your rig is built, is it an aftermarket unit that goes with the upfit, or is it the stock Econoline unit? I've seen econolines here in the southwest that the rear aftermarket unit is a complete separate system from the front. Extra compressor, condenser with fans on the side...

    Aftermarket transmission options

Diagnose what is happening. My uncle puked enough trans fluid from his 7.3 that it pretty much stopped moving on the highway. That was with 200k on the transmission that had seen a good amount of towing. He called me with the dead truck need help phone call while I was in town. Picked up a...
