    Anyone removed an anti-condensation mat?

Well, most of my time is in the desert, or other relatively low humidity places. I went ahead and pulled it out yesterday. Based on the amount of water that poured through the rain fly this week with only about 1/2” of rain, I’m guessing I’ll have bigger issues than condensation anyway.

pop rivet & nut setting toolS recommendations wanted

2 tools. I use the harbor freight riv-nut tool for an initial set, but after that I usually actually finish the install with a threaded bold and a couple of nuts, the harbor freight tool isn’t great. I use the basic Stanley heavy-duty gun with the rotating head for pop rivets. It works pretty...

    best swamp cooler location

I’ve lived in houses that were only cooled by swamp coolers in the desert. They will take a decent water flow and need to flow quite a bit of air (big fan). if the air isn’t moving through without dead spaces it will just feel wet, not cool. In a small space like a camper, you could probably...

    Modifying CVT Annex Connection

Yes, it is done now, with LED lights added underneath as well, and some d-rings added to the cover side allowing rolling the cover and strapping it out of the way. I’m very happy! The lights themselves were a great addition.

How NOT to flat tow your Rubicon

This is more evidence of why I believe Exploded Isometric Diagrams are bunk. I’ve NEVER seen something explode isometrically... much less look even close to a diagram afterwards. The truly sad part is that this will probably be “fixed” then traded in and resold on the market. Did any of the...

    Staying safe / spooky stories

I’ve experienced plenty of strange things in various adventures. Most of them had perfectly reasonable explanations, although sometimes it is better just to accept the wonder and magic of the moment. If you are into or getting into the topic, be sure to read Tom Mahood’s account of searching...

Tarp Material and how to attach it to itself.

Having seen some of the stuff that BritKLR sews, I think you would be hard pressed to find someone with more qualified advice. I like the postal envelope idea, good cheap source for small practice pieces! I might do that. Also the scraps left on a job site, you could probably get enough to...

JK Sway Bar Skid Plate with Lightbar

I suspect it is more about airflow and associated gas mileage than skid plating. If you drive carefully and with basic sanity you should be generally able to protect your sway bar and usually your tie rod... although I’ve seen a few of those bent on trails.

Tarp Material and how to attach it to itself.

I’ve ordered from Big Duck Canvas before. It went well. Sailrite has a lot of the track and other bits in addition to sewing machines. Strapworks for buckles, straps, fittings. I’ve never bought or installed a zipper, but Google is your friend there.

Tarp Material and how to attach it to itself.

Well, polyethylene melts at about 230 F. I’m sure you could figure out how to weld it with a soldering iron or similar. However, I suspect that there are lots of barriers to success. Fumes and fire are the first things that come to my mind. In general though, canvas tarps are easily...

Tarp Material and how to attach it to itself.

There are many different types and materials for tarps. What specifically about current RTT materials makes you want to use a tarp? Weight? Waterproofing? Cost? Availability? You could conceivably buy tarps made from the same materials as RTT now. Look into the various options from a tarp...

    Anyone removed an anti-condensation mat?

I think I’m on my 4th soft shell folder tent. Currently a CVT summit series. This is the first one that has ever had an anti-condensation mat. I always thought I wanted/needed one, and was excited to get this. However, it is ridiculously stiff, keeps the mattress folded annoyingly when...

Show me your Ammo Can storage

50 cal cans on custom mounts on each JKU wheel well. One has winching stuff, the other has fluids, epoxies, etc. EDIT - added a photo at the end. 40 mm can on top of my spare tire carrier has tow strap and jumper cables. Note, having these was a PITA at the federal security checkpoint for...

    Ridiculous descriptions from sellers

I always open with “Hi, I saw your Craigslist ad for (describe it differently than they did), I’m in (city), and have cash, and could meet you in (your city) any time after (travel time)”... I’ve found this eliminates most of the scam/son reactions, and most real sellers respond immediately...

    Ridiculous descriptions from sellers

Oh no, they almost always offer to send you a cashiers check, or to send a code to verify you are real! One must watch out for those sophisticated foreign spambots posting random used up trash on CL these days with overblown overland descriptions and high asking prices you know!

    Ridiculous descriptions from sellers

Surfing some lunchtime Craigslist today and I remembered another favorite: “no spammers or scammers” ... clearly entering this line and relying on the core integrity of scammers will save you a metric ton of wasted time and energy! Good thing you put that in the ad!

When is it time to patch the rust holes?

I would send some pictures of the series rover I took apart “to fix a few things” but it was so long ago that photos weren’t digital and it still isn’t back together!

When is it time to patch the rust holes?

It will be a $4k project anyway... you just have to admit it.
