Coilover covers are unreal. I'll peel mine off and grab a photo. Some people say they trap grime and moisture but they are not sealed units so I've never understood that logic. They are just good for keeping mud and flying rocks off the shafts and I'm sure help keep the seals in better shape...
That sucks... interested to hear what Icon says. I have a local Tundra owner with the same truck as you. He also said the Icons blew very soon. He had them rebuilt and then swapped in some 2.5" Kings and is very happy. I might actually pick up his fresh rebuilt Icons for a song and use them as a...
LOL I should clarify... this is NOT my truck. I can only wish it was.... It's a client's of Nathan's at The Gear Shop. We were just fortunate enough to get to drool over it for a couple days!
Here is some Tundra porn for everyone. Over the past few weeks our team at Tamarack Media Co. has been working with The Gear Shop out of Calgary AB, on some of their wicked build projects. The unreal #TokyoTruck Build project feature reel below. More details on the truck can be found on the Gear...
Awesome, they turned out great!
Very nice setup Overland Empire, All black everything!
Looks like a beautiful spot Shaun. I need to explore more out West.
Interesting on the 4.88's. I have 4.56's and 35's and wouldnt have done it any different. I guess it depends how the truck gets used though.... mine is either parked or on the highway heading to the trails.
Way more material (steel) goes into making a leaf pack that a coil. If you have ever bought steel to do any fabricating you can instantly imagine that a lot of that cost will be tied up in materials. Then you have the assembling and manufacturing process (which I assume isn't too difficult) but...
Cool
! Glad you enjoyed the Koots. Nelson is my home town... one day I'll move back. Love it out there!
Thanks! haha I do not carry a spare currently but I do have OBA and a tire repair kit. I will carry a spare on longer distance trips (Moab, Cali, etc though). I would be I'm closer to 400...
I won't give any more details. Just waiting for a couple more pieces of the puzzle to come together before I pull the trigger on the new kicks.
On a separate note, looks like my rear suspension isn't done quite yet. Working with Eric at Archive Garage and testing his new shackle flip has been...
I'd say just be patient. The "face-lift" still isn't that old and I think with the way Toyota has been marketing them, they are proud to have one of the last body-on-frame SUVs still on the market. I have seen so many of the new 5th gens driving around I can't imagine that Toyota would even be...
There is a company out there that builds racing racks and supposedly has an upgraded rack for the Tundras. I think they even used to sell their racks to Safari Ltd. when they were in business.
I think you basically nailed it. Drivetrain/powertrain anyway.
- lower ball joints
- timing belt and water pump
- leaky OE exhaust manifolds producing the "tick" when cold
- starter is supposedly a ***** to replace once it goes due to its location under the intake manifold but I wouldn't...
I'm heading into BC for 10 days after work today. Mainly in the West Kootenay area - Nakusp, New Denver, Kaslo, and Nelson. If your anywhere close, send me PM or text.
And another 1-G-T. We're on a roll!
Good looking truck. nice way to free up a couple extra slots for switches by extending the mirror switches else ware. Thats one of the most annoying things about these trucks!
