Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

LOL, good points. The block is back, and pretty clean, inside and out. Going to clean the rest of the stubborn paint off with a wire brush before I start assembly, but I am waiting for a gun cleaning kit to arrive so I can clean out the main oil gallery where the oil squirter were bored...

    Unimog U1300L cab height

You looking to build something like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=MdcEhOg-yfE I don't think this is a slide on, but it is a decent size cab-over

    Pulling Travel Trailer with a U1350L (U1550)

That's very funny, we used to go camping in an old 2wd Nissan LWB E20 Panel van, and we would be parked up in some very remote places on rough roads in southern Africa and the look on the big 4x4 owner's faces when they got to the same place with their massive tyre, suspension lifts, diff locks...

Help regarding purchasing of Unimog U1700L 1980 model

How much "surface rust" Mine had "only minor" rust, but after soda blasting and stripping of paint with a wire brush, the minor amount was quite a lot. i replaced large parts of the floor, which is not a big deal in the end, but a lot more than I bargained for. but it can all be fixed :)

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

I have the original spring, they have the inner helper springs. They managed to handle all the rail gear, cherry picker and crane, so I am hoping they will be good enough for my camper. If not, I will get some from Ben at Unimog Central, he has been getting springs made to upgrade the ADF...

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

Finally finished my wife's car. :) Colour coded all the plastic, new grill, black 20" wheels, tinted windows, Kenwood double din radio, GOE suspension height adjustors (for an extra 65mm lift when necessary) , D4 LED tail lights, EGR blanking kit and BAS remap. It goes great, super quiet...

Top five priorities in your vehicle

    1. Bed - it has to be comfortable, easy to access, and not just for sleeping :) We lived in a Land Rover with a roof top tent for months, and it is great whilst the weather is good, and you are far away from other people. Trying to sleep when it's cold, windy, raining or just being in a camp...

I already have an uprated pump, but you will need it if you have the standard low HP pump. As I have change the turbo from an oil cooled bush type to a water cooled ball bearing turbo, I have had to fit a restriction into the oil line to limit the flow, so I think I might have quite high oil...

    MAN 4x4 Truck camper build

Probably best to get a fix for it The brake shields on the mog are more from armour plate I think, but not "standard equipment" on all of them. Mine being a road-rail mog did not have them, but I now have two sets and will fit them. They a pretty well supported and have lots of bolts and...

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

Brief update Just a brief update of what has been going on. All going well I will be full time on the truck after Easter. I have not done much work at all for the last few weeks as I have been working on my wife's new car, but that is almost finished. I managed to get some time in this...

    MAN 4x4 Truck camper build

Brake disc shield crack is not just a MAM problem, I have gone through three sets of shields on my Defender, and on the way up to Mitchell Plateau a broken rear shield managed to pull the ABS sensor out, by some miricle not breaking it in the process. If yours do crack, will they cause any...

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

I must admit that i really enjoy building the truck, for me it is like therapy. it is great to be able to do things myself, and get things done the way I want them to be done. I am really looking forward to a break from work, this last contract has been particularly difficult and extremely...

    Jim the Truck - a mercedes 1823

Maybe all the exercise your truck got made it lose weight :) Thanks for the blog and the costs, it was very useful, 28lt/100km is a bit on the thirsty side, hopefully mine does a bit better than that, or I will have to fit bigger fuel tanks. Your truck always looks great, love the colour...
