MAN LE10 Camper on the Telegraph Track Cape York Australia

We did the OTT a few years ago, Gunshot was a bit of a disappointment, we saw a few standard hiluxe dual cabs with highway tyres towing camper trailers coming down one of the multitude of "detours" through the creek. The photos above are from the one or two really steep parts where some people...

    Pebbles the U1700 Unimog

Not sure about the history, but I think it was some thing that was used for cross country cables. I think it had a crane and a massive hydraulic winch. Urss added the Claas overdrive and the massive tyres, and built a new tray for it. He also made the bullbar as well.

    Bleeding Brakes U1350L (1550)

Best thing to bleed the brakes and the clutch is a pressure bleeder, gravity bleeding will only work if there are no air bubbles in the system. I got one of these, http://www.motiveproducts.com/, it works great, makes bleeding the brakes a 10 minute job. It also makes bleeding the clutch very...

    Pebbles the U1700 Unimog

We went up to Marybourough to pick up the new injectors and fuel pump for my Unimog, and whilst we were the, Urs took us out to his test track at the local claypit in his U1700, sure is a capable truck. We shot some video on one of my other toys and my wife took some as well, put this together...

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

OK, here are the first two videos of my engine rebuild. Part 1 - The Cylinder Head Part 2 - The Block is currently being uploaded into Youtube, but it is pretty big - 2 GB - 17Min long, next time I'll break it up into smaller bits,

    '90 Mercedes 917 Camper Build

That's what I think it is, Festo also make pneumatic rams, so if you had anything pneumatic on the truck, that may be the air supply for it.

    '90 Mercedes 917 Camper Build

Nice looking truck, amazing how some trucks look almost brand new despite being 25 years old.

The engine cleared the frame by about 1mm at maximum lift on the jack :)

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

Another milestone reached today. The old engine is out, and within a few days I will be putting in the new one. It was quite a process, but it went fairly smoothly. First was to remove the bull bar and all the things in the engine bay that might be in the way. Then detach the crawl...

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

Yes, I hope it is big enough to lift it over the frame I think it is, and it can handle the weight. One source of oil consumption is the manifold intake gasket, I would check that first. Some people re-use the intake gasket a few times when setting the valve clearances, but the gasket is...

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

The basic re-build kit ( pistons & rings, all seals and gaskets, bearings, etc) cost $1100. The balancing etc cost $360, and the valve grinding, head re-facing costs $350. The engine I'm re-building only had 2000 or so hours on it, so I didn't have to worry about the crank or the bores, as the...

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

Whilst I am waiting for the paint to dry on the axle housing, I thought I would post a few screen shots from the engine re-build. I recorded the whole process on GoPro cameras. When I get time I will try and put a bit of video together of the whole process. Installing the last valve on the...

    MAN 4x4 Truck camper build

Fantastic spot Cape Leveque, one of our favourites from our last trip around Australia. If you want a nice little camp, try Bully's Landing, great place. Love the awning, great idea, and will make such a difference having shade up there, things can get nice and warm even this time of year :)

Help regarding purchasing of Unimog U1700L 1980 model

Working gears are used off road, mainly when going down steep hillls, First one is an ex-military mog - no working gears, you can hear how he uses the brakes to control the descent, if control is the right word. The red ones have working gears, and that is how it should be done.

    Unimog U1300L cab height

Ben, that would probably disintegrate if you were going to use it on the back of a mog. Not sure if you have been out in the desert or similar, but the correlations are pretty bad and the plywood and tinfoil construction like that would not last more than a week or two. You need something...
