I have the max coupler and am very happy with it... I'm thinking for the Taco I would probably run this with the right side on the trailer side and maybe a minor raised ball mount on the truck side:
I also have a 2016 Taco TRDOR but have never used the trailer with it. Actually the taco has been not very reliable, leaving me stranded a couple times but that's for another thread/time... I guess I should figure out what it would take to use the trailer on it should I need it. Is yours stock...
The rear trailer receiver has to be relocated further to the passenger side and about 2 inches down. I had a shop do all the welding and just added a new, reinforced receiver where it needed to be. You already know the Yakima Backswing, and I added this Kurt spare tire carrier...
Ha! Yes, the smaller Dometic was a freezer with liquor and ice cream in it.
Thanks! The road shower was probably the easiest thing to mount on the trailer. Mine is the 7 gallon as well and it is mounted using the provided bolts to the tent arm. I don't believe I had to drill anything, just...
Thanks, yeah, been planning for this trip for a while. This is a place we go to at least once a year and a trailer and jeep test for the Baja.
Haha! I have that coming my way too. Have a 4 month old at home and a nephew that lives nearby that's just over a year. Can't wait to take them on...
From this 4 day weekend in Mexico. Just living on the beach, 30 miles away from closest population. Here is my jeep on 37's - so anyone looking to get one can see how the trailer sits with stock tires.
Trailer packed up:
Trailer deployed:
the trailer worked out amazingly and I can't...
Some more items have been figured out over the last few days...
I riveted some aluminum to hold my other 2 solar panels in place while in transport:
Since the tire is out, I have figured out the mounting for my air/fuel/water/propane - (hoping that it will not kill my tongue weight)...
To answer your questions on the tire carrier: I like modular setups so that parts can be reused elsewhere if needed. For example this tire carrier is a Yakima BackSwing 8002483. I had to move the receiver to the passenger side so that the hinge is past the trailer rear door. Also had to move the...
Nothing yet. I'll probably just make some fixed L brackets on the front and sides and rotational on the back. Riveted to the tent floor. But I'm trying to think of less intrusive options too.
Tire carrier was next. Not sure how much I like it because it sticks out a bit, but for MX it will do. Might just get a swing away bumper made for a YJ and weld it on.
I have a water heater with faucet coming in, that should fit into the cabinet above where the sink s supposed to be...
I'll be going to Mexico to camp on the beach with friends for 4 days so I finally got to it and started building out the trailer a little more.
first, the trailer needed reinforcement and I didn't want to risk the frame welds failing so some more steel was added:
second, the lighting...
Ah, yes. When assembling it I did have it on the ground before torquing the bolts. I'll do the loosen, pack, jump, tighten. Maybe add more grease. Thanks!
That's the thing, not sure if running enough weight. should probably hit us a measuring station. Does anyone have their weight when fully loaded? The tires are running at 20 psi offroad.
What have you guys done to modify your suspension? Mine seems to ride too harsh, bounce around and not really cycle much. Thinking of a softer coil... Or maybe it needs more weight? I have an arb elements fridge, GZ 1250+extra battery and some camping chairs inside. Tent, awning and water on top.
Sure! Saturday I will be helping out a friend put on his new suspension and other mods on a new (to him) jeep. That will be till about 5pm. Then Sunday we will be doing a shakedown run to Crown King and be back in town early afternoon. I live in north Phoenix, not far from Deer Valley airport...
Hey guys, I figure I share a good find... I found these lights at Harbor Freight for $3.99 on a sale (https://www.harborfreight.com/rotating-magnetic-led-worklight-63422.html)
So I bought a bunch and they work great. Magnetically attach to anywhere on the trailer and swivel to light any area...
Haha! I took mine to a near by 3rd party DMV place I always go to, no line but slightly more expensive. I had this little hispanic girl "look" over my trailer and said "yeah, looks good to me" took about 10 minutes from start to getting plates. Love the 3rd party DMV's...
I see we have some people from AZ here, planning on being at the expo I assume? Maybe we can meet up and talk trailers? I have a house in Kachina Village but that will be rented out to Sierra Expeditions guys :ROFLMAO: So I'll be camping with some buddies around the area.
