Yea....that is what I went with last year. But I don't see why it is any different than the stuff available at the border. Or is that Sanborns too? Last year I got mine before hand and this year I am just planning to buy it at the border when I cross.
That is good info to have....
My 04 Taco has never had the lower bj's done as far as I know. The truck now has 125k on it and I bought it at 70k. The dealership just went through the whole front end though and found nothing to be a problem.
While I love Baja....take Scotts advice. I think Baja is to slow for the time you have allowed. Scotts route is the fastest if you are going down the west coast. I agree with him on Mexico City too!
For those who like a full sized ocean kayak yet want to be able to pack the boat down.
Trak makes an excellent boat! A buddy of mine is stress testing the 1600. This winter he will be paddeling nearly 1500 miles in the boat along the entire length (and then some) of New Zealand...
Since Belize was mentioned by the OP I am going to give a shameless plug for my favorite dive resort in Belize.

I speak very highly of Jim & Kendra who run Off the Wall. They run a very nice yet small place on the Glovers Reef Atoll. It is an Eco-Lodge though...
Cool pictures....
I looked to see if you have a build thread so I could ask this question there but I do not see a build thread for your trucks.
So.....I am curious why did you decide on RHD vehicles for doing these trips? As I understand you can not take these trucks into El Salvador because...
Sure but that must have been just about 24/hrs a day driving.
I did from PV to Salina Cruz in about 5 solid days of driving. Not a lot of night driving or hitting the road at 5am in that but who wants to do that while in Mexico!? Plus he still has time from SF to PV! All but one of those 5 days...
I may have missed it already discussed/mentioned but....
Why not just build up the TLC? Sell the 4Runner and whatever else. Dump the cash into the TLC. The FJ60 is a great truck and can be built up almost perfect for overlanding. It can also do some decent offroading with a mild build and has...
I was in the Gulf Coast of Mexico doing about 70mph on a toll road. I have an 04 Taco that is S/C and it has a lot of coin tossed at it.
I get passed by about a 1985 4Runner on 35's with a SFA and built about like that 84 p/u on ebay. It had Califonia plates. No idea what engine he had but...
Really tough to do the Mex200 with only 7 days. I am sure you could do it but it would be hard to get to Oaxaca in 7 days down the Mex200. So really that only leaves inland....
A TRUE traveler! Keep going like that and you will be just fine down in Latin America. Karma will guide you to many wondeful places with wonderful people who you can share great meals with.
exactly....
I am going to add that if you go to one of the most dangerous countries in the world un-prepared because you want more travel time than a well prepared truck, well you are very irrisponsible to your own safety and the safety of those around you.
They obviously worked or sold stuff...
Thank you for taking the time to post a detailed reply. I am very well aware of the time and effort to write a trip report. Here is mine, which I have at least 200hrs of effort put into the write up, pictures and videos.

Does a Mean Green not work on your truck?

or better yet how about this....

A second alt could be a bit complicated. Special pulley needed, mounting bracket fabb'ed, special belt, ect. I can only see a need or use for a 2nd alt if...
As most people say.....the Taco is small. It is the last of the "mini" trucks made by Toyota. I bought my 04 Taco because I wanted a "mini" truck. I can't imagine cramming 3 kids in the back and 2 adults in the front on a regular basis. Not to mention it doesn't take a ton of gear to fill up the...
I have a set of 5-35" Maxxis Creepies with less than 500 miles on them just sitting here. I had them up for sale but nobody was interested so I kind of changed my mind. Yet, money talks.... ;)
Man I love this truck! Super awesome Patrol, the best for overlanding. In fact in my opinion this model (LWB high roof) is one if not the best platforms out there to do up an overland truck.
Great mods by the way, I am watching/reading. Keep it coming! :)
