Opinion on which direction to take on my build.

First, let me say to OP, Ryanc, the weight issue from your first post is what caught my interest here. And I am in no way trying to muddy your thread, but felt my thoughts paralleled yours to quite an extent. I have been building trucks and wheeling/playing in the dirt for over 40 years. And...

Opinion on which direction to take on my build.

It is a Mojave and part of the package, but thanks for the kind words. I was going to delete the sidesteps, but kinda growing on me, and with 37s shouldn't be a huge concern...

Opinion on which direction to take on my build.

Interesting question for sure. I am all for the protection of the steel bumpers, and have them on all my trucks- except the JK. I have even hit a deer chest to chest at 50mph on a motorcycle, so am intimately aware of the down side of lack of protection. I have elected to keep weight down on the...

My New (AEV) American Expedition Vehicles Jeep!!

I noticed the same, and did like wise. And the plastic is much lighter to boot... Dendy, no worries- hope you have a safe trip home. When you leaving? Might could run down to meet with you and Ken Jr tomorrow or Fri...

Steel 20 inch rims? What are some of the best for offroad

The old gold standard was 10" of sidewall, or a 37" on a 17" rim, but this was for offroad. Towing is almost the opposite extreme. To answer wheel size, tire size needs to be addressed first IMHO. I have two sets for my 250- both E rated. First is a 285/75-18 (35" skinny, on factory 18s) Toyo...

My New (AEV) American Expedition Vehicles Jeep!!

Dale, I accidentally edited this post, ... I'll try to restate what you said best I can remember. "I am trying to keep the weight off both my truck and myself! :) I did not add a skid, but did trim the plastic where the skid would go. Dendy- did you monitor fuel consumption to Columbia and back?

My New (AEV) American Expedition Vehicles Jeep!!

As much as I love the AEV kit, which is a bunch- I gotta ask what the steering skid does exactly as I can still see the tie-rod and steering stabilizer? Looks as though you do have the high steer which is also a good item, but the skid really just covers the low hanging front crossmember no? A...

Recovery points on 04 disco ii

problem is the front bumper is too low and especially with the 'lip' still in place- even if it did have a recovery point, it would damage the cosmetics in stock form, sadly...

    Tire recommendations?

BFG A/Ts are hard to beat for that use. If you want more aggressive take a look at the Cooper STTs as they have a heavy tread but with lots of siping and are relatively quiet.

Ford 250 v 350 payload and suspension quesitons

Why the hesitation for the 350? Better too much than too little, and cost is near identical.

    Post Pic's of your Jeep

Circa July 4, 1976: my first Jeep- '76 CJ5 only about 1k miles with full weld in cage by Smittybuilt if I remember correctly, and Armstrong Tru-Tracs. And yes- two different pics and two different jumps- and no alchohol on board ;-) The second jump is actually the one on the left which broke the...

    Recommended tire pressure

highway I would run at or near max recommended inflation, but on the washboards, drop to 32-35 IF you are loaded lightly- more load, more pressure.

Is anyone running 16" or 17" Alloy wheels and skinny 33's?

I meant SSRs, sorry- and I used them on my 90 for years in the 35/10.50-16. Great mud, rock, and all around offroad, not bad on road first 30k miles(got noisy after that), siped, etc. I also ran a bigger set on my H1 and was well pleased there as well- need to try them before knocking them ;-)...

Is anyone running 16" or 17" Alloy wheels and skinny 33's?

and there are the SST by Interco, 35/10.50-17, but read the size chart as it is really equivalent to the 285 in width. I am considering these if I opt out of my 37 KM2s. Also allows use of factory wheels...

Is anyone running 16" or 17" Alloy wheels and skinny 33's?

Toy makes some nice tall skinny, but 18s. I found a set of Sahara alloys in 18, and ran a set of 285/75-18 which are 35/11.50 and liked them- wish I could find a skinny 37 M/T...
