@gwolff and OP, what do you think about putting it right in front of the tongue box atop the tongue itself? This keeps:
weight low and centered (you could orient the spare perpendicular or parallel to the tongue)
easy access to the spare
tongue box storage capacity "as is"
You might be able...
Great work and thanks for sharing. If you can:
How long did this take once you began (not counting research, CAD, etc.) - just the build itself.
How do you plan to get the adjustable rack to raise/lower via one person?
Now that it's done, would you change anything?
Nicely done!
I never actually purchased from them but have talked to them at least twice. Very professional, nice to speak with and willing to help source what I looking for. No affiliation, just passing along since these folks do seem to be worth working with if they have what you're looking for.
NRS - I'm a big fan of their stuff, never had a failure or problem with their straps and plenty swear by their products.
Never done a "diy" strap but am in need of something to help hold my Porta Bote atop my roof rack so I'm glad I found this thread.
Thx for the strapworks link - checking...
Picked up two 52-qt. units from WalMart in September when they were ~$127 ea. Iced down 30 individual water bottles instead of loading with loose, bagged or block ice. I kept the lids closed for 10 days before opening up to inspect and there was still probably 33% of the ice remaining and the...

There is still one tiny panel that is rusted out (bought it this way) which I never dealt with (a little embarrassing, totally...
My Audi A6 Avant, flew out to CA and drove it home (had that for 4 years).
My first BMW, flew out to North Carolina and drove it home (great road trip - sold it once our kids came along and a 2-door wasn't in the cards any longer).
My current GX470, flew to Houston and drove it home (holding on...
SOLD SOLD SOLD
Selling my '92, rarely driven at this point (<750 miles since Nov. 2016 elk hunt in Flagstaff). Trips to our cabin up north (where I keep this 75% of the time) have been rapidly decreasing as our kids get older and have lives of their own. Four cars isn't ideal and I've also got...
This is really cool, thanks for investing the time to document your project.
Could that support an RTT on top? I'm assuming 'no'.....
Do you mind sharing approximately what you've spent to date?
Looks awesome - keep it up!
Where did you find the original S10 trailer? Craigslist or other?
Read both your projects (original build + suspension upgrades) on Off-Road.com, thx for sharing those, you've got me thinking :-).
