100 series LC/Lx470 vs Land Rover LR3 vs 1st generation Sequoia

I have an 07 lr3 since new in spring 07. My few main gripes are: low ground clearance, even in the most modified set up, mostly due to tire size limitations. Where the air suspension is magical for combining nice highway cruising for 3000 miles to a 4x4 destination, it still really only...

Are they as good as they say?

Yeah, last I checked a new LC is $80,000. Not far off from $106,000 here in the US for 2011 models. Those LC headlights look weird to me. Big ole bug eyes out there, like a Cicada. :Wow1:

Getting a LR3, best forum and lift?

Good luck with those: "I have always stood by my set at a MAX lift of 2-1/4" (2" preferable). This was no accident. I tested for almost a year and a half before selling these. The Jrod guy needed to "one up" what was in the market so he chose 2-1/2" FIXED lift. Bigger is better, right? I do...

Getting a LR3, best forum and lift?

Sure, bigger tires than what will actually fit up into the wheel well/fender. Sounds like a great plan. The LR3 is the wrong vehicle for this purpose, that's all I'm trying to explain but some people just want to sacrifice reliable transport for fun times, which is cool if that's your thing.

    LR3 Winch Tray?

come on now! you know the A-frame is completely useless. it's not even necessary for mounting lamps out front. your energy is better spent going into the other stuff you are planning.

Show me your best rover modification.

Bumper is the basic Kaymar with swing out tire right and jerry can left optional selections. To me the design is good but you have to decide what is more important for your needs. Kaymar builders decided that the option for TWO tire carriers, one on each side, was more important than ideal...

Getting a LR3, best forum and lift?

If you really knew everything mentioned, why are posting the questions on a forum? I'm not arguing at all. Just pointing out the real issues. Bigger tires won't fit into the wheel well so you'll need to be careful on that. A 275/65x18 like you suggested isn't more than a 1/4" extra...

2009-11 G55 good overlander? Better than other current makes?: LR3/4, RR, LC

Ah yes, and I'll share the irony.... In 2006 as I was pining over an LR3 or a Land Cruiser, or a Range Rover, a good friend said "hey, have you ever looked at the MB G?" I didn't know what they were really, didn't see them around being in NC where there is a shortage of actors and the like ;)...

Show me your best rover modification.

my air and dual battery controls. extra fuses are on the back of the hatch cover too ;) And my simple but actual favorite, 2" receiver specifically for bike rack mounted to the swing out tire carrier. the whole thing swings out and away. Factory hitch is not used, bikes are up high from...

Getting a LR3, best forum and lift?

Now, what would be cool, is a computer version of this lift, a switch per-say. A German company, Matzker, has something like this but I have not heard of anyone in the US being about to get it installed. It allows desirable functions - on demand 1" up or 1" down from either of the two...

Getting a LR3, best forum and lift?

See the "lift" here. No rods. just induced "extended mode" : Another time: You may wonder "why does it look like the rear is extended higher than the front". It's true, it is. Figure out why and understand your vehicle better.

Getting a LR3, best forum and lift?

A view of my underside. To me, this is the 2nd thing to do after proper tires and a full size spare being 1st. 3rd is putting that spare where you can actually get to it in situations where getting under the rear is not ideal. You can see front guard, two radiator curved guards, middle...

Getting a LR3, best forum and lift?

    A. the rods are not "extended", they are shorter. You can make them yourself even from the ones on the car, I did just to test the idea. Well, not my factory rods, but a replacement set from the parts department. B. Using them is relatively stupid. Not only the obvious reasons if you take a...

2009-11 G55 good overlander? Better than other current makes?: LR3/4, RR, LC

I would not say the the G55k is "simply a G550 with added...." The engine is built by a due you could go meet ;) The transmission doesn't have the numerous complaints I've read about the 7 spd in the GL (it is the same 7 spd right?) and when I drove a 550, the low speed shifting felt very...

2009-11 G55 good overlander? Better than other current makes?: LR3/4, RR, LC

and, now we have the added parameter of possibly wanting to tow an Airstream .... It may be simpler to split these duties or if combined, it helps narrow the field of choices we would like.

2009-11 G55 good overlander? Better than other current makes?: LR3/4, RR, LC

No kidding. Good thoughts to consider. I am realizing I would "feel" better about not blowing the toys budget on a single piece. Instead a used 08 might be the best compromise, and maybe in a year or so when those drop a bit more too. If there really will be the next AMG engine, a twin...

2009-11 G55 good overlander? Better than other current makes?: LR3/4, RR, LC

You are probably correct about the power, yet over the years, I somehow have grown to enjoy more power when desired, such as for passing/merging more quickly when fully loaded or built with winch, fuel, RTT, full fridge, bikes, etc, etc. I was fine for 200,000 miles in my slow Disco I in...

2009-11 G55 good overlander? Better than other current makes?: LR3/4, RR, LC

Pretty much my thoughts and the only 2 issues I really have with it are my recent addiction to the "mpg" computer and what seems like such a crazy purchase price. The mpg actually supersedes the price because long, long term, the G will outlast my other "used for a while" vehicles. What's...

2009-11 G55 good overlander? Better than other current makes?: LR3/4, RR, LC

We are also considering the LC both used 100 and used/new 200 simply for durability and value plus the tow rating is higher. I could sport an "AMG" badge if I had to but not a "Lexus" badge.

    GatorDoc’s 3rd gen Cummins Dodge

Sorry if this is easily found elsewhere but with all the extra stuff built on these Cummins Trucks, what sort of mpg do you get specifically along the highway, say mph 70-80? I figure 60-70 may yield a little better. I'm sure many of you travel in the west where there are long distances on...
