1999 Land Rover Discovery 2

SOLD
Price $9500 (Yes there is wiggle room here because no one ever gets what they are asking)

I have owned this D2 for almost two years now and have enjoyed every moment. This is a weekend fun vehicle for me as I have a company car to use throughout the week. I absolutely love this truck but due to financial reasons I cannot justify keeping it at this time in my life. I will try my best to list main modifications and repairs here but also have a spreadsheet that I will share. Can also provide CarFax as well.

Purchased it from a very OCD enthusiast in Atlanta who purchased it from his neighbor. They both garage kept the vehicle and kept it well maintained. The individual I purchased it from bought it bone stock and did most of the modifications/upgrades. All windows and door locks work properly. The Sunroofs are sealed and are not operational at this time (no leaks though). During my ownership, I replaced the front driveshaft with a HD Tom Woods as a preventative item as well as added the Ultra Gauge to monitor engine temps. The AC and heat work great, but this model does not have rear AC. Heated seats and windshield work great. The truck drives and runs great.

I have seen temps as high as 217 but it typically is in low 200s around town then drops to 190s at higher speeds. I have a 180 TD5 thermostat but never saw the need to install it. If time allows, I will install the TD5 thermostat this week.

Major Repairs
  • Head Gaskets - 2014 (around 100k miles)
  • Power Steering Gear Box and Hoses - 2019
  • Water Pump - 2019
  • Master Brake Cylinder - 2022
  • Tom Woods Front DS - 2022
Main Modifications
  • 2" OME Lift and Shocks
  • 5x Terrafirma 16x8 wheels and 265/75r16 General Grabber AT2s
  • Steel Front & Rear Bumpers
  • Steel Sliders
  • Smittybilt 9500lb Winch
  • Diode Dynamics LED Fogs (wired into factory switch/harness)
  • 2x Front Runner Rain Gutter Cross Bars
  • Alpine Radio, New Speakers, Wiring and Amps (can include new Boss 7" Apple Carplay radio with reverse camera for right price)
  • Ultra Gauge
  • Tinted Windows
  • New OEM weather mats up front
  • New Leather boots and rubber mat on console
Known Issues
  • Paint is in great shape but no means perfect. Hood has spots of clear coat showing wear.
  • Front driver fender has small bend at front corner. Rear passenger quarter panel shows slight crease from something rubbing against it.
  • Rear door slightly drags on plastic bumper cover when opening and closing so I just lift it up slightly to prevent. (my wife bumped the spare tire with her car one day and I think it just slightly knocked door out of alignment, going to attempt to adjust hinges this week)
  • Front seat lowers are worn but have leather covers on them. Passenger has large cracks in it, while drive is just worn.
  • Driver seat motor to move forward and backward does not work. All other functions work.
  • Windshield Wiper Cover is cracked. (this was next on my replace list)
  • Rear Passenger mud flap has a crack in it but not noticeable unless pointed out

The hot environment (180 degree) thermostat is an absolute must with any D2. As is ditching the head gasket-eating Dexcool. I recommend Zerex G05 but Ford green coolant is fine too.

I'm surprised no one hooked up the CDL in this truck given how nicely it is outfitted. In any case, it's a sharp truck at a good price. Whoever buys it needs to swap the coolant and thermostat ASAP, install the CDL cable, and enjoy this thing. My only concern would be the possibly bent back door.

I might tackle the 180 thermostat this week if time allows. I am using the Land Rover XLC Coolant that comes from dealership. Is that Dexcool just rebranded?

I had planned to do the CDL linkage but the light forest roads I take for hiking or mounting biking never required it.

Read up on some forums on how to adjust the rear door hinges. There is nothing visible that looks bent, maybe the light bump moved one of the hinges slightly? Going to try adjusting the door this afternoon to see if it helps out.
