4:56 Gears

4:56 gears are in the truck and OH MY GOD what a difference. I thought the truck had get up and go before, now she really dances. I have a few miles of break in first and then we'll she how she does loaded and pulling the trailer too. I'll report on mileage too when I have a chance.

If anybody is worried about 4:56 gears with the new Tacoma's don't be, next to the supercharger this is the second best change in the truck.

Where does your tach sit on the highway now, at what speed?

My truck is gaining too much weight, I need to hurry up and get a supercharger. :chowtime:

It happily sits at 2350 + or - at 70 mph (GPS tested). Lots of pull in 5th gear without kicking down and LOADS of pull in 4th gear if kicked down. Speedo is out a little bit more, but I'm going to find a calibrator for that, if I can.

I'll report on mileage when everything is settled in.

The RPM number at 70mph is with 285/75R16 tire? Do you remember what your Air/Fuel ratio was before you lean out using the URD? I'm wondering if I should add a MAF/MAP calibrator to lean it out a little.

I'm running a 285/70/17 tire on a heavy Walker Evans wheel. I've gone back and richened the truck a bunch. I'm running around 10.5-1 to 11.0-1 A/F Ratio. which is about the same as the stock TRD ECU Program that TRD Loads with the SC.

If your running the stock pulley and no cold air intake I wouldn't bother with the MAP/MAF. I only added it due to the smaller SC pulley, cold air intake and DT long tubes to richen the truck back up.

I have found that the truck doesn't like to be leaned out and much prefers a richer mixture. I find to, that with a richer mixture, fuel in the tank seems to last longer. I know that sounds odd but it does. Less knocks and pings too when running rich.

I'm keeping it stock until warranty runs out. Thanks for the info on MAF. One less thing to buy. :)
Not sure I want to get the 4.56 gear, with my 265/75R16 tire I'll be at 2425rpm cruising at 70mph.

yeah thats certainly starting to get up there with the 4.0L, there's that fine line between destroying gas mileage and just getting a little bit better. That why I didn't want to go to 4.88.

When I switch to 34 or even 35, I will still be fine. with 35" the truck will go back to just about stock RPM, but I'm leaning more towards 34" and going back to an all terrain tire.

Hey everybody, I'm pretty bummed, that Baja has been canceled for this year.

I was really looking forward to hanging out and meeting a bunch of you, but this will have to wait for next year.

Money and a lack of good sponsorship to help build the new truck has grinded us to a halt.

Here's a new picture of the new truck she's a beauty, but will have to wait till next year to hit the sand.

Any report on the milage yet?

Well in the city I'm getting about 4 - 5 more MPG than before which is really nice. The engine is in a much better RPM range than before. On the highway is about the same, but now the truck doesn't seem to struggle so much when loaded or with any wind.

A great modification!

Loads of get up and go now when the supercharger gets going good. :wings: 75mph comes pretty quick!

Now I'm just going to figure out how the get the speedo back, its about 7-10 kms off. I know its not much to worry about, but I like everything right in the truck. I'm just picky

Amsoil for the first time

I'm trying Amsoil in my truck for the first time. Anybody have any thoughts on this oil?

I've been a regular user of Mobil 1 synthetic oil 5w30, but have found that Mobile 1 other products are getting hard to find in Alberta. My truck was becoming a mixture of fluids and figured if I could get everything from one place, it might be a little better and easier.

I've just finished doing the whole truck, other than the Transmission (Toyota WS).

Hopefully everything works out good. :smiley_drive:
