The transfer tank will be a custom unit made from 1/4 aluminum and mounted where the spare tire now goes under the truck. It will be 120L and be wired with a remote switch inside the cab which I can turn on and it will dump fuel into the main tank. The gap where the spare tires goes is quite large and I have taken a few measurements and I should be able to get a nice big tank high mounted in this area. I haven't worked out all the details yet, a few more things have to be in place first like the rear bumper.

That's a nice size aux tank, ~30gal. Do you need some frame enforcement for that much weight? It's going to be ~98kg/220lbs.

I will do a bit of frame reinforcement just for peace of mind and building a tougher truck. The trucks frame should be able to handle that sort of weight anyway, but always good to build it tougher. I won't be using the tank all the time, mostly on long road trips and camping. Even if I got 100L or even 80L I would be happy. I just wanted 120L extra onto of the 80L the truck holds, would give me 200L of fuel and over 1000kms of travel time before filling up.

Thanks for creating the list.

The secondary tank is a great idea, beats having to use jerry cans. So far I havent ran into a time where I needed extra fuel and didnt have a gas station near by. For long road trips or those unplanned longer then expected expeditions the extra fuel would be mind settling. Would be nice to have the extra weight too for winter rear end traction.

Any guess how much those King shocks run?

I do have the Shrockworks bumper and plan on eventually getting a winch. I'm wondering if I should:
1 - get a heavier duty spring that will handle both now
2 - get the medium weight spring just for the bumper weight and upgrade the coil when the winch goes in

Would the heavier spring be too much without the winch?

Also, how well will those CO's live in the New England winter (snow/salt)?

CO's or OME? I had CO's on a MR2, which worked great but I avoided driving it in this weather.

TIA

I won't be replacing the whole coil-over, I love the Icon and I have the rebound and compression valving just right for my truck just the springs in the coil-over. I need a heavier weight spring than what Icon gives us (650lbs). I'm having to crank up on the coil-over which isn't good for the coil. I'm looking at the kings, for around 400 bucks a pair. I also want the heavier spring to deal with the bumper and winch. if you're going to put a winch in I would oppt for the heavier spring, it also depends on the winch you put in and its weight.

My Icon coil-overs have taken the Canadian Alberta, Salt/gravel -40C winters very well. have had no issues with them at all and would buy them again. The only issues I have had with them is breaking a spring.

I'm going to do a full rebuild on them in the spring time to check them out and replace anything that might be looking to be warn out. If there's nothing I'll put them back together and good for another 3 years. I'm also going to make them extended coil-over which add about about 1" of down travel to the shock. King spring will also go in at this time and well as a bit heaver weight shock oil to help with the bumper and winch.

Well one of my redtops died over the really cold snap we had of -35 for about 4 days straight, so I'm getting a new Odyssey PC1500 to re-place it. I had 2 years out of this redtop so I'm not very impressed with the life of the optima so I will try something else. I'm hoping the other 2 redtops don't die as well as this could become kinda expensive to replace all three batteries.

Any guys have any thoughts on the PC1500?

Good battery, but I know a few people have had problems in the cold. Not enough to choose something else.

Not sure how often you go down to the USA, but take a read of the Diehard Platinum thread here on ExPo.

By the way, any idea how busy Ian is right now? I need some aluminum work done.

I'm going to be a little smarter this time and use a battery blanket on the new battery to keep it warmer on the really cold days which is what I should have done with this one.

Not sure about Ian. If you have his number you could call him, or Kevin might know and Kevin would have his number.

I was looking at the 1500 as well for my primary battery in a dual setup. I haven't seen any negative comments yet, although I get the impression its newer to the market than the 1200 and 1700.

the specs look really good for it and much better than my redtops. I will eventually replace the other 2 redtops with PC1500 too.

I use the 1500 as a backup and have had to put it to the test, been working fine. To my knowledge, they still don't make the 1500 with reversed terminals so in the '05+ putting it in the stock location will probably require longer calbe runs.

I don't have to worry about that, all 3 batteries sit in the front of the box in my truck. My air compressor now sits where the battery used to.

thanks for your info though!

I've order a new 1500, should be here in a few days :)
