2019 Ford Ranger Taking Orders

I dunno, I guess I don't have a problem buying something potentially expensive and then using it for its purpose. I wouldn't buy a high end spec truck in the first place, there's no value in the accessories for me. Spend as much as is necessary but don't overspend. But $50k, $24k, $5k, it's just an arbitrary number. I would no more feel good about buying a worn out S10 just to abuse and break it, but $1,000 is still a lot of money to me to waste.

This makes me atypical of most Americans in this regard. They're perfectly happy spending the least amount for junk they replace every year when instead they could have spent more on something that might last or be repairable.

I know it's nice to sit all smug and point at someone who buys a $50k as some sort of tool, but there's no reason to stereotype. If a fella buys a brand new truck and keeps it 15 years and uses it who am I to judge? I see plenty of Lariats and what-not beaten up on ranches, it happens. Anyway, so what if the first owner wants a nice truck? All those 80 and 100 series Cruisers with leather and navigation are getting well used by the second owners now.

Think it depends what it is, all of our earth moving equipment wasn't exactly cheap. It was also meant to work. No problem getting a $200K machine dirty. Where-as was what once a cheap little truck to run around in, is now no longer exactly cheap. Even the lowest spec version isn't cheap. $30K for a truck that can't haul or tow much, meh...

Guess I don't see the value in it. Perhaps growing up in a family owned business, and now have my own. It is always about the bottom line. I am sure some of the the things I spend money other people would consider silly...oh wait! I really don't spend money. :p

Typically the 30k fullsize truck is rated to haul more than the more expensive variants of the same model.

Fewer accessories = lower weight = more left for cargo.

Well, I have the dough and I spent a little more than 1/2 of that...Haha.

Just because one can afford something doesn't mean they have to. :)

I was referring to the Ranger. Seems silly to spend that much on a truck that can't do much. I can run down to the local Ram dealer here and buy a 3/4 ton for the same money.

Mini/Mid-size trucks made sense when they were cheap, now not so much. Heck, you can buy a 1/2 Ton with nearly the same capacities as a mid-size for under $25K.

But hey, if people are willing to buy them, who cares what I think. ;)

Just a skewed sense of value. A DLX XtraCab like my 1991 was would cost $25k new in 2019. That is for a 22R-E, 5 speed, no A/C, bench seat, etc. Some of it is feature creep and market demand, sure. Anyway, people don't always feel guilty using their trucks. Had a very expensive Colorado diesel on the trail with us a couple of weekend ago. He was hanging with built Cruisers and 4Runners. Not a hard core trail mind you, but scraping bumpers, lots of bentonite clay mud and banging around pretty good. He's got a FJ40 he's building, so no stranger and using it like it should.

Let's be honest, when presented the opportunity I bought a V6, 6-speed TRD OR and not a SR, too. I wish I could have done more a'la carte (or at least a manual SR5) but I had a stripped basic truck and didn't replace it with another. It got old being hot in the summer, wiping the f'n windows of humidity, not being able to hear the passenger on the highway. I'd likely buy a SR5 or TRD again, if I was in the market for a new truck. I for damned sure would like a brand new truck someday that didn't take a year or two to baseline and fix what the PO did and didn't do.

Also persistent monetary inflation being what it is. When money is cheap there's no incentive to save and keep. Just roll the debt over and the good times will never end.

Same. That's about what my truck was as well. But, I bought it used with 21,000 miles on it. 20K less than msrp. Ford had 10K in rebates going on at the time on new ones but, I think I did okay.

You have motorcyles, right? lol

Well...I spend a little. But not so much that I have to work constantly, like not having to bust my ass anymore. Not buying $50K trucks enables me to be somewhat of a slacker these days... :D

Not sure if is all inflation. 20 years ago I bought my little 5X8 utility/moto trailer for $1000, now 20 years later that same trailer is $1300. Vehicles on the other hand have sky rocketed in price.

It is all the mandatory BS manufactures now include on their vehicles that drives up the price. Yep, too bad we can't do more a'la carte, oh well. Best thing about capitalism is, you can put as much or as little into it as you want. You can be gentle or as abusive to your stuff as you like. Think I am somewhere in the middle. Doesn't have to be pristine, but I am not going to drag it through the Rubicon either. I'll do stuff like the Ruby on the moto though. Cheaper to fix.

Oil eater.
I saw one at the auto show here.
I'm 6'4" and getting into would be challenging at best. These micro beds out there defy logic for me.

There was one at the sportsman show here a couple weeks, really nice truck. $40K+ was the window sticker. I don't it get but that is just me. $40K gets you a lot more truck elsewhere.

I consider those little beds an open air trunk, if you treat it like a SUV, would fine. If I had one it would haul mainly moto gear bags and camping gear. Occasional flat of veggies or flowers for our gardens. :D Weekend warrior ********... ;)
