37 on stock quigley

When my front right wheel bearings failed my first thought was the big heavy rim and tire combo.
Most of the people I spoke to about it seemed to think that it was most likely due to lack of maintaince (old grease) and/or moisture getting past the inner seal.

I'm still thinking about going with a lighter rim and tire combo at some point. I think the h1 rims have enough back spacing so as not to load the front bearings in an excessively unbalanced way

We had a hard time finding the spindle at first.
After speaking with Tiger and Joyce at Quigley. Tiger mentioned Steve at ORD (Off Road Design). It turned out that they were less than 5 miles from where my van was. They apparently hoard ford Dana 60's to build their full size rock crawlers and race trucks.
Steve and Chris from ORD were amazingly helpful in getting me back on the road quickly. Quigley was very quick to support and help me as well.
We also had the good fortune if meeting Miguel (Miguel's Auto Shop) in Glenwood springs CO who pushed all his other work out of his shop to wrench on my van to get me back on the road. GREAT GUY and skilled mechanic.

Those are the experiences and reasons why I can't wait to get back home. No offense but Florida is a strange, strange, did I mention STRANGE place. Maybe its because the Western tip of the Bermuda Triangle is just off the coast close to where we live :Wow1:

Dropped van off in San Diego to have Ramsey install fox shocks and front springs.
This upgrade definitely tamed the beast.
It was the first Ambo that Ramsey did. I'm glad I had him and Glen do the install. Ramsey drove it after putting the shocks on and was not happy so took the rears off and changed the valving until it felt right to him.
His years of off-road racing experience has really tuned him in to what works and what does not.
He is definitely the "van whisperer" when it comes to getting the most out of a Quigley suspension set up. I am very pleased with the results. Any one with a Quigley should do it!!

He is a great guy and a wealth of info, and it doesn't hurt he is from my other home town of Carlsbad. I am going to do his RIP system for the airstream until I figure out if I really need 4wd or not. For the money its not much more than just replacing the shocks that need to be done ASAP. Glad you had such a positive experience with him. Crossing my fingers that his "whispering" can help the old brick out!!

I have been having nightmares about needing one of those. I'm going to look into how far you can push the envelope with AAA... I have friends that got them to tow a car and sailboat for 1000 miles under the standard coverage.

Looks like you had an awesome trip, even with a hiccup!

Were the old batteries enough as your house bank?

Yes Derjack
The flatbed mad all sorts of noise under the weight of the ambo!!

Alex the house batteries were fine. Only time they ran down a bit much was when it sat in the shop for a few days with the fridge running at 35 degrees. Still plan to convert to all or mostly LED at some point.

The hardware store interior lights (polksfinest) look nice, but I want to try to stock with the stock housings since my ceiling is original.
Overall a great trip and Jb1rd is correct Colorado is a great place. This was my first time spending any length of time there

Thanks Alex!!
Sounds like yours will be on the road soon!
Call Ramsey he may have a shock solution for you even if it is still two wheel drive.

My buddy had an F-350 dually attached to a 38' fifth wheel camper towed via AAA. They were pretty much useless finding someone that could actually do it, so he had to do his own legwork, but they paid the bill. Broke down right ********** dab in the middle Rte 80 orange cone heaven in PA. The road crew boss was on his butt to move it. He had no ideas as to how, but was pretty unanimous in his decision that it needed to be done. Sure thing bud. We'll just push 23,000 lbs of truck/trailer out of the way so we don't inconvenience your day. Thank god I was in front of him when the HPOP blew, or "I" would have been on his butt to push that thing outta the way. :)

How much lift over stock does a stock height Quigley give you, do you know? I think your rig sits just about perfect on those 37s and that's pretty much what I'm looking for. I want to run the H1 setup, though I'm not sure I can get away with not recentering the rims. Mines a widebody and as I recall you added 2" spacers to yours to get where you are. I'm assuming yours was a dually axle in the rear? I would imagine it would be the same width as mine.

Btw, where were you in Colorado? Looks like some nice country. We were there this past summer, staying in Central City just west of Denver, but there wasn't much wheeling to be done with a 43' fifth wheel.

Quigley lift is supposed to be 4" over stock height. However, this seemed a bit taller than my previous quigley.
Ramsey's kit lifted the front an additional 3/4 of an inch.
I'd say it sits somewhere between 4-5.5 inches higher than stock now.
6" u-joint kit would probably be the best. Look at his green flatbed in 37's I thinkithas 6" of lift. I agree with going the least lift possible.

My rear spacer is 2.5 inches. Yes it was a dually as mine originally had a wide box. You could just recentered the rears, but would have to carry 2 spares.

Near glenwood springs co

Tgreening,
I see your dilemma with the bolt pattern.
If you get the rims re centered you could go with the newer ford pattern.

Here are some Colorado pics:
I wish I took more but really didn't think or it at all our stops.
