you know I was thinking about that, and why does the hood have that sound/heat sheild stuff anyway? Would it matter any if I just removed all the stuff and just painted it to look nice? What is the real purpose of the stuff?

Believe it or not it can make a fairly significant difference. Since you re did your interior and that noise is quelled greatly you probably won't notice a huge difference. The heat radiating off the hood without the liner is a huge difference too. But then again you coated your headers.........which lowers underhood temps......hmmmm. It's a give and take type of deal. LOL

Hmmmm, good info. I think after reading yall's thoughts on it I may just pull it all out and just paint the hood, my suburban is loud due to the flowmaster 44's so a little engine noise wont be noticed, and I heat wont be an issue either, actually having the hood with no insulation may be better to conduct heat out.

Slow progress, drained the radiator and engine oil cooler lines are disconnected. Still need to un hoom tranny cooler and lines then will be ready to pull the core support.

Got my new engine hoist last night and it is put together and ready to use.

Got it in the garage, but forgot to pick up kitty litter to contain and soak up the mess. Time to go to wal mart.

Looks like you had a busy day! Now the big fun starts to see what is wrong with it. Hope it is something easy and inexpensive. Ouch, you have a lot more faith in 4 little 3/8 bolts threaded into an aluminum intake as a lift point that I ever would.

Will pull the intake and heads tomorrow and see how bad it is. But so far its gonna be a full rebuild.

yep #4 is the problem just as I thouhgt I would find. funny thing though the cylinder looks clean at first glance so I am really hopeful I got lucky and can just get a new set of pistons, rings and bearings all around and put it back together. Dont think I will trust the made in INDIA Sealed power pistons that were put in it, so gonna get some Keith Black hypereutectics and be done with it. The good thing is now I can drop the compression down to 9:1 and run regular instead of premium gas, being at sea level now I dont need the extra compression anymore.

Ah man! That sucks warwgn. So sorry to hear this. I was hoping for something simple like a broken lifter. You can’t go wrong with Keith Black hypereutectics pissers though.

Thanks for the condolences!!

I really wanted to build it myself in the first place, but at the time I did not have a place to do it, but now that I got my mini shop set up it's really not a big deal. I would rathe be doing it because I want to not because I have to, but while I am at it I might as well put a roller cam in it too.
