I have the Spot and I have to say, although I am a bit of a gadget geek, I really do like this device. I use it all the time, (thankfully not for the help/911 feature) but for the tracking feature. After a trip it is a pretty cool deal to check out all the google earth shots of where you were. I know one could jot down coord's and do it yourself, but it is really a quick and handy way to track your travels ad have a little bit of insurance on the side. Pretty cool.

Can anyone comment on if this service requires credit contracts?
 
I just got an e-mail back from Spot regarding the service - when you buy the setup you are supposed to get the spot free when you buy the service - except their system doesnt work that way, so you actuall buy the spot & get the service with tracking free by e-mail activation code. This is fine because its still $149 either way. That said, you cant get the SAR insurance in the activation code as a bundle, but apparently - per the e-mail - you just opt to add it in when you use the activation code and it adds $7.95 that you pay by credit card through checkout. If you elect NOT to add it when you activate, it then becomes $150 if you want to do it later. The $7.95 for $100,000 search & rescue insurance sure seems cheap to me, so I'm taking it. If anyone is wondering about the process with this promotion - thats it!
 
Mine arrived Monday and I activated it yesterday and checked out the OK messaging function. Very cool, works great.

Now I have to box it back it up and look suprised when I unwrap it at Christmas. :sombrero:
 
Anyone have the latest on the SPOT product offer. I'm trying to get one for my father-in-law and haven't had luck contacting the company.

I just called Spot directly at 1-866-OK1-SPOT (651-7768). I always was able to reach them and got great service from everyone I talked with.

According to the flyer the offer has expired. But call them anyways, it doesn't hurt to ask.

I called Monday, the last day of the offer, and finally spoke to somebody who gave me the deal.

Wish they could extend this! Just got back from vacation and saw it! Day late and a dollar short.
 
Applied on the 26th and got it on Friday. Talked a friend into getting one and they got it on Monday.

Having a lot of fun with it already!
