Rest assured we will be back. Pennsylvania is so close that we will be coming back often in the years to come.

Please feel free to PM here or over at AAV if you need more info on explorin' the woods around here. I'd be happy to share some ideas on places you can disperse camp in the ANF and new territories for you to roam elsewhere in the state. Also we'll be doing another run down the Pine next spring if your interested.

Great trip report. This is a great example of why I enjoy this site so much. Folks out doing and then sharing it with the rest of us. Thanks!

Be sure that I will take you up on that offer. I read through a lot of your posts before we headed down on this trip.

Thank you for the kind words!

Nice post, thanks. BTW, the aircraft on Tuesday is an old Fairchild C-123 Provider. They've been out of service for a long time, so I think it must belong to a flying collection (it would be odd for a cargo service to be flying a camo plane).

Awesome! Thank you for the info. Was neat to see in person from the top of a hill with no one else around.

Very neat trip! im looking to do something similar in a few weeks. Im looking to go to Bald Eagle SF and I have friday-sunday. What would you suggest/ where would you suggest going? Ive got a 99 cherokee with 30" A/t's so pretty similar to your rig im looking to do basically what you did with some tougher trails such as negro hollow.

I would suggest getting the purple lizard map for navigating, it will make your life much easier.

I would also suggest staying at poe valley state park, you can camp there with a tent or trailer or they have cabin rentals that are pretty cheap. It Is also dead centre of the park, which makes it easy to radiate out and explore.

If you stay there, you HAVE to make a trip to Milheim (just north) to go to Elk Creek Cafe and Aleworks, great food and great beer. Definitely worth it to get a growler to go.

As for trails, I would suggest negro hollow trail, henstep valley trail as well as poe paddy drive (this was our favorite and we did it twice, the views are the best on this trail and the most frequent).

We didn't get to do kammerdiner trail but it is supposed to be quite good, I would suggest doing that.

Henstep and negro hollow both took over and hour each.

There are lots of others that we didn't get to, but I would start with those 4.

My brother was considering going back in mid-late october himself but he didn't have anyone to go with. He has an XJ with 30" tires as well....

Ill be awfully jealous of the fall colours you will get. Don't desitate to ask anymore questions!

Nice photos! I'm glad you used our map to explore Bald Eagle, it's a great forest with a lot of unique areas. Loved the pictures of the Purple Lizard map as part of your travels - our electronic gizmos are useful but nothing beats a big map to plan your days in the field.

We used only the map, you guys did a great job with it so we didn't need anything else. We actually marked it up with a red sharpie to show routes we had taken and good sections to revisit next time. It also survived being driven on, best $12 we spent the whole trip.

Great trip report! I hope to some day make it over to Haggis-land for some camping and exploring.
