I think you're right about that. The 4th Gen rear bumper is already a pretty big affair, I'm thinking the front on the 5th Gen might be similar. Though depending what they have behind the plastic maybe there will be some huge improvements possible in approach/departure angels.

I'm really hoping the wheel openings are big enough and shaped well so that a tall, narrow tire can be used with little or no lift. LT255/80R17?

Hope it’s not geared excessively high... or better yet, maybe a low/towing axle ratio option! (though I doubt it)

It looks like making custom bumpers for the front and rear is going to be difficult, and on the large side if done at all, will be interesting to see what comes available.

This truck looks great. They did a good job of integrating current Japanese design idioms while keeping it looking "rugged" and connected to the vehicle that preceded it. Nicely done. Am I seeing a little bit of FJC in the A-pillar and forward roofline shapes?

The front bumper skin has awkward shapes to it. The aftermarket will have fun making bumpers for this truck.

I really like it:

X2!!!!!!!!!! Oh man I was really not expecting this but BOY did they do a good job eh. I LOVE the look. It's definatly following a path of N.American Toyotas eh, ala Sequoia, Tundra and even the Rav4 and Highlander look simillar. I think this looks GREAT though on the 4 Runner. It looks tight, nimble. I dare say I like it more instantly then I did the 4th Gen. Well done Toyota. This truck is gonna be a hit I can feel it. I think it'll look gorgeous with a full Expo build and some 33's.

Now: We want a diesel, a 5 or 6spd manual, get rid of all the electronics and make manual everything oh and a solid front axle with a 2DR removable top option... ;)

Cheers

Dave

Its ashame american markets dont get manual transmissions. Seems like I saw a post for the next generation LC and it had a manual transmission, naturally not for the American market.

Does this mean the SR5/TE does NOT get the AWD/FT 4WD option? (meaning no center diff?). Just like the 99-00 4Runners?

According to Toyota's press release the SR5 and the TE have a part-time system, no center diff. What's interesting is the Canadian press release states AWD option for all models. That would be very odd to offer the AWD option only in Canada.

I don't see a center lock button, so you're probably right. I wish they had the same layout as the 99-00 Limiteds. H2-H4-H4L-N-L4

I had a rough time deciding between the 4th generation and my JK, if the 5th gen had been out I think it would have been an easy decision. Now I have to sit here repeating, "I am committed to my JK" over and over again.

I'm wondering if the SR5 will get an option to add on a locker. Really didn't care for the extra doo-dads on the previous Trail Edition (ie, removable Tom Tom), so a simple rear locker option would be awesome.

Agree that the front will be a PITA to replace but the TE rear bumper looks to have been made to be replaced.

Maybe not a full wrap-around steel behemoth but definitely the black plastic portion can be removed and replaced with steel.
