Last summer I worked on a week-long strenuous project in high temps and high humidity. I was sweating like crazy. I mean, I was using bandanas for sweatbands and soaking 6 - 8 a day. Sweat just pouring off me all day long.
I started off in my standard cheapo cotton boxers and found out real quick they caused serious chaffing. Switched to compression shorts, and that took care of the chaffing, but by mid-day they stank so bad I had to eat lunch by myself.
So, given that disgusting scenario, would you still recommend the ExO stuff? How 'bout the UnderArmour?

Lynn - I just returned from working in some coffee fields in Costa Rica. It's still the rainy season down there - the temps were nice, but the humidity kept us sweating all day long. I was washing clothes every night (in the bathroom sink) because it took 2 days for anything to dry (hanging in my casita).
The ExOfficio gear (boxers, shirts, & pants, along with some shirts/pants from Mountain Hardware & Kuhl) worked well & only took on a very slight hint of funkiness by the end of the trip - I could tell, but no one else could. Once I got back to San Jose (CR), one run through a real washing machine & all the funkiness was gone. I would recommend them to anyone heading to humid climates where proper laundry facilities are few and far between.

Any inexpensive cotton boxer-brief that fits me well. If I'm going to be doing some serious hiking or some such then I might bring an inexpensive, light-weight synthetic pair too.
I reckon if I were going to be in a small enclosed space with folks for days on end while sweating profusely, I might grab me some fancy panties with stink-off fabric just to be a good neighbor. But sleeping out in tents, this is rarely an issue for me.

After using all these plasticmade Underwear I change to merinowool.
No stinking, feels much better then any Underwear I`ve tried before.
Its a New Zealand Brand, called Icebreaker...

X2 I've had good luck with these as well. After reading this thread I am going to try some exo however.
UK brand Kiniki is well made and fits well. I bought two dozen cotton pairs for a trip which were hugely reduced, covered with the Union Jack. Then there was no confusion in commercial washaterias as to which were mine, I had more than enough to change during the day if needed, and when William and Kate got married they made an excellent string of pennants around the camper :Wow1:

I'm switching to Merino wool also. Probably go with Minus 33 as they can be put in the dryer. I avoid clothing that needs special care whenever possible. Inevitably, I will forget and they'll end up in the dryer.
I've been wearing Minus 33 medium weight thermals for about a month now. They're comfy, have an even temp indoors and out, and zero shrinkage.

Ok I might be the only one still in the horse back days... I did not realize there was such a huge difference in underwear. Fruit of the loom has always worked for me but probably because I have never tried any of the above mentioned...
