Just talked to a friend with a Xoom. She was complaining that very few of the apps on the Android Market will scale for the tablet. She's debating selling it and getting an Apple. Comments?

My interests are mostly mapping, browsing, gallery and word processing.

There is a new Droid in town by Motorola on the Verizon network that was introduced last January at the big electronics show, but Verizon told Moto to take it back to the drawing board, and what they did was create the fastest Droid yet, and with 4G LTE service.
Name of the new Droid is the Bionic.
Dual core CPU and 1 GHz.

Three good reads:
http://androidandme.com/2011/09/devices/droid-bionic-review-too-little-too-late/
http://www.androidauthority.com/motorola-droid-bionics-debut-deferred-12912/

I was at Cartoys on Sunday, and I looked at the new Droid Bionic and it is a little bigger than my Droid.
My Droid I got when they first came out, and it is showing its age at only .50 GHz and single core.
The 4G LTE service is just as fast as Comcast cable from what I hear, so it should really fly for downloads, surfing, movies, ect.

More than likely I will be picking it up before the weekend.
Now the fun part, have to write down all my good apps I have now so I can download them again.

Got my new Droid Bionic today, it is stupid fast on 4G LTE.
I will have to post some comparison speed tests between it and the high tier package I have at home for Comcast, will try to do that tomorrow.

I bought the HDMI cable for it, and as soon as I plugged it into my 40" Samsung TV it asks if you want to play music from it to the TV, show vids, or clone the screen of what you seen.

I chose the latter, and surfing with Firefox on the Droid on the TV was pretty cool.
Also watched a few hi-res Vimeo and YouTube vids from it to the TV, looked good.

Tomorrow I try Angry Birds on the TV with it :D

Very fast phone, supposedly the fastest one out right now.

Have not tried video conferencing with it yet, maybe I will get a chance this weekend.

Bionic TV out experiment with longer HDMI cable

The short micro plug (Bionic phone port) HDMI cable Verizon sells works great with the Bionic for mirroring your Droid to your HD TV, but it is short, and you are to close to the TV if you want to surf with the phone or play a game.

I went to the Shack and got this coupler:
HDMI In-Line Coupler
Model:
278-006
Catalog #: 278-006

to mate my Verizon cable to a longer HDMI cable I had laying around.

The output yielded green lines across the TV screen, and hardly any sound was coming out of the sound system for the TV.

I called up the Shack and spoke with the guy who sold me the coupler, and he said I will probably need to switch it out for an AC extender, as I am loosing to much signal with the two cables together.

AUVIO™ HDMI® In-Line Extender

Model:
15-319
Catalog #: 15-319

This PDF file explains how it works in case anyone else wants to get one.

I will not be able to test it out until around 10 am tomorrow down at the Shack, and I will swap over to it if it works out OK in the store.
Not leaving there with it unless I can test it on one of his TVs.

update on the HDMI adaptor

Swapped out my HDMI plug for the AC one, the Bionic works perfectly now on an HD TV with the Verizon short cable, the AC adapter, and a 12' cable I took down to the store.

Angry Birds at full 40" looks awesome :D

When I got my new Bionic last week the salesman took my 16 GB card that I had around 600 pics and 10 vids, and all of my MP3s on and inserted it into the new phone to use.

The stock gallery on the Bionic sucks, and when I open it up, there are two folders.
One for my vids, one for all of the pics.

When the SD card was in my old Droid, I had around 5 custom folders I threw my pics in to get to them quickly to show or email to people.

The stock gallery just mixes all the pics into one big folder.
Fired up Google and was looking for answers, and it turns out the best gallery on the market is free for Android.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.alensw.PicFolder&hl=en

I installed it a bit ago, and low and behold all of my other custom folders are now showing up at the first screen.
Plus you have the ability to create a new folder anywhere on your phone from the menu, and the new folder will then show up in the gallery list when you fire it up.

It is simply the best gallery app I have seen so far.
The only other way with the old gallery I could make a new folder was to use Astro a very fine file manager app also in the market.
But there are to many steps involved, this QuickPic app does it all for you from within itself.

I read about that one in the Google search, but someone said they preferred the QuickPic, so I gave it a shot.

Droid Bionic File Transfer Tip

If you want to transfer files from your new Bionic to your PC, you must use the supplied USB cable that came in the box.
I knows this sounds ludicrous, but the cable must have a chip in it.

My new Droid Bionic I picked up a week ago Friday is not recognized by my PC at home, it only charges the phone, and I left my Bionic cable at work.
However at work using XP Pro I am using an old cable and it works for some reason.

Here at home it is a no go, so I will not be able to transfer files until I get my cable back from work.

Searched on Google, and here it is.

This is funny, not because of the pain for you, but I'm sitting here watching the Seahawks and the new Droid commercial is all about how you don't need any wires to 'instantly transfer from your computer to your phone over 4G LTE' or something like that...that must be a good thing if it requires a special chip in the wire to transfer files!

As a note, I use Dropbox to transfer files between my computer and my phone...it goes pretty fast and works pretty easy once I get it set up on my phone.

I can do that too, I can upload files to the cloud, but I prefer a good old fashioned cable and drag and drop the files to my desktop on my PC.

Oddly, this does not seem to be an issue with my Bionic. Granted, I've only tried to transfer music, but any computer I've hooked it to, with any USB cable it's connected and created a folder.

I know many are having the same issue as I was.

I was greeted to a brand new pc today at work, and the supplied Bionic cable worked great.
The cable says Vcast on it, and also says for music photo transfer.
