Another Gen1 Tundra Thread

Jealous. I wish I didnt have ABS. Takes up so much space in that area. Love the overhead switch setup too!
Makes me a little sad because this will probably be the last simple vehicle I own. By the time I'm ready to move on, any vehicle worth buying will be full of electronic whiz bangs...

Re-redoing things the third time
I agree completely. The tundra is kind of a sweet spot in my opinion. The size is right, its reliable, its obd2 so its easy to check when something goes wrong, its a Toyota from the 2000s so its easy to service. Several parts are interchangeable between it and the taco/4rnr so that lowers cost and I personally think they have aged pretty well. Its got the tech I want but not the stuff I dont.

The latest:
Anyone with a gen 1 Tundra (or most any vehicle from that period) can attest that the factory headlights leave a bit to be desired. The ARB bumper has cutouts for fog lights, but I wasn't too keen on spending ARB money for a halogen light. So here's my square peg in a round hole (literally) solution.

Those plus a 24" bar yield a nice amount of light.

Ya at some point I'm gonna ditch the abs, it's funny that people have this idea that if you remove abs, or a sway bar or anything you will instantly crash when in reality you just have to actually drive the vehicle

Do the ABS vehicles still have the proportional brake valve in back? If not that might be the only complication

Yes. Removing abs won't affect anything other than no abs

I went with out the sway bar on mine for a few days (was waiting for longer end links) and I definitely noticed a difference.

If I get ambitious,I might remove my sway this week. Got another trip planned for next weekend, it'd be a good opportunity to evaluate the mod

Attended the northwest overland rally this past weekend. Had a blast. Here's a couple shots.

Why vehicle manufacturers decided having a light under the hood is no longer a good idea is beyond me. I impulse bought a solution to this from Rugged Overland Outfitters at the Rally. They ran out of them and mine just showed up yesterday.
It's a KC Cyclone. Water and dust proof. Easily surface mounted with a sheet metal screw. Wired it to a switch under the hood.

One downside of Toyota engineering is that the 12v outlets only work when the key is on. Not a particularly convenient situation for the fridge we recently purchased. We carry the fridge on the passenger side back seat so I decided to put a constant hot behind the back seat.
The outlet is from Blue Sea and I mounted it in a generic plastic electronics project box.

Been a while since I've updated this. A few things have happened since July. Most notably, my sliders are finally done!

These things are beastly. 95 lbs each! Currently in process of coating them using duplicolor bed liner. Should be installing them this weekend.
Some other electrical updates have happened too. I'll post those shortly.
