International Maps for iPad?

The Gaia GPS looks nice, but is exactly like a couple apps I already have, but it requires more ducats. Anyone know if it, or anything else, can access and use international TOPO - South America specifically?

Thanks!

I'm not sure what maps gaia uses for South America.

I guess it depends on what you want for international. The ArcGIS for iOS has a world topo map that's nice, but offline access isnt there (I think).

Another app might be the pdf maps app, which can display geopdfs you download either through the app or ones you provide it.

I have skimmed thru many...many pages, and did not see this app listed.

It id GPS HD by MotionX. It is designed for the 3g version iPad, and I have had no problems with it. If you have found a better app, I would love to see/use it.
Here is a review I found on it, but do your own homework too. http://appadvice.com/appnn/2010/07/review-motionx-gps-hd/

As for the wifi only version, That BadElf gizmo seems to be the best choice. Anyone else out there that has tried it?

At the CES convention this week, Visteon showed a wireless interface that lets an app running on an iPad control lots of a vehicle's entertainment system, navigation program, and interior functions like seat position. The product will start to appear in new cars next year.

The system was shown with an iPad built into the car's dashboard, but because it's wireless it could be used anywhere within the vehicle.

Folks who prefer the Verizon wireless data service will soon be able to purchase an iPad with a CDMA radio installed. At present, Verizon sells wifi-only iPads with a MiFi mobile hotspot. In the future, no external hotspot will be needed.

For Pilots Only sells a kneeboard that holds the iPad in position on the thigh of the aircraft's navigator. This could be a safe way to secure the iPad when used in a terrestrial vehicle, too. For the passenger's use only, of course. http://forpilotsonly.com/iPro-Aviator.htm

Thanks to TUAW for the pointer to this web page

A company named Lifeproof is advertising a protective cover for iPad, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. The cover is clear plastic, only 1/16 inch thick and weighs less than an ounce for the iPhone size. Once installed, the cover reportedly protects against shock (drop to hard surface from 6 ft on corners and edges), dust and dirt.

And get this: The cover makes the iDevice waterproof to a depth of 6 ft. Take your iPad swimming, put it in the dishwasher, use it in the rain. This I have to see to believe.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 4 are being accepted on this web page, price $70. Covers for the other iPhones and iPad are waiting for production.

Does look nice. Also check out the clearance section of the apple store. iPad 1 is on a decent discount, and refurb prices reflect this too.

Has anyone tried mapbox for the iPad? I made some tiles but wondering how they perform on the iPad. (I dont have one). I can make some topo maps for someone if they want to try it.

As a Gen 1 owner, I really don't see enough improvement in iPad 2 to upgrade right now. I wouldn't use the cameras, the dual core cpu is nice, but there's not any apps that currently would benefit from dual core. The improved GPU is also very nice, but with the exception of gaming, how much use will it be? I have no need for the HDMI out cable. I bought the VGA adapter for the 1st gen and had it 2 weeks never out of the packaging before I realized I'd never use it. And I dont exactly think the 1st gen iPad was all that thick, so the size reduction just seems cosmetic.

I'm the opposite. I saw no reason to buy the first gen without a camera. So I held out for the new second gen, because in my widely distributed family, Skype sessions across the globe are frequent occurrences and will be awesome with the new iPad2....but I still won't be getting one I don't think. Just don't have the disposable income.
