Chris, it was nice meeting up with you today!
Nice to put a face with a name.

Yeah! Chris is a super guy, a very positive person! I met him at the Baja 500 in person after a couple of years talking on the forums!:wavey:

Seattle is a FUN town!

Great coffee, great people and you get to catch the fish at the market!

Have a blast! You deserve a break from the hours you've been putting in, enjoy every minute of it....

See ya when you hit town!

Oh man, thanks so much Stephen. I was thinking of you and Cindy last night. I slipped into a little French cafe named "Le Pichet" when I got hungry. They have an item on the menu that is the fresh fish of the day (happened to be cod last night) that they braise with crayfish, tomatoes, fennel, and hazelnuts. The flavor was spectacular.

P-man and eurorom, thanks for the kind words!

Corey, it was indeed great to finally meet you in person. For as much as we've BS'd on the interweb, you'd think it wouldn't have taken so long. Your FJ is even more impressive in person than it is in the photos. It's a beast! I'll post a pic in a bit.

viter, good question. I'll have to ask, as I know they have some very sharp guys who are quite deep into the technical end of things, but not sure if there are actually any registered pro's in the office or not.

viter: No eng's are on site. The eng's from AUS come over for anything that is NA specific or is here in NA before it gets to Oz.

Update: The tank is here and installation is underway. The tank is a beautiful unit. It comes with a complete replacement filler assembly.

Ramblings...

Chris,
I’m sure you will have these details covered in your future article but here are a few questions about the aux tank installation. I’m interested in the FJ Cruiser as an expedition platform for my next vehicle so inquiring minds want to know… Has ARB/Man-A-Fre considered the following implications/interactions of installing the aux tank?

1-Does the tank replace the OEM unit? This may help clear up my next questions.

2-Does the tank work with ARB’s rear bumper or other aftermarket bumpers?

3-Additional weight:
At 38 Gallons or 19 over stock, that’s approximately 124 lbs of additional weight assuming a worst case of 6.5lbs/US Gallon. Will this cause ARB to review and change their suspension offerings to accommodate more fuel on board?

I can wait for the article for the answers...

Cheers,
P

I can answer a few of your questions, I just had the man a fre tank installed last month, the tank is very well built! It's a 19 gallon tank but I was able 40.2 gallons total.
I have 2.5 inch lift coils in the rear with a full load of fuel it drops it about a 1/2 inch and the ride is softer. I'm upgrading to OME heavies, I think that will make a big difference when loaded with fuel and camp gear.
It does not replace the stock tank, it uses the empty space behind the axle{ I have a Fj cruiser} Again it's a very well built tank, they did a great job!

Hello from Portland!

I'm in downtown Portland right now, sitting at a patio table on the square in front of the courthouse. It's a gorgeous day here, sunny and warm but with a cool light breeze.

The Man-A-Fre tank is installed, and I've transfered about 1/2 tank so far. No numbers yet, but I'm keeping track.

Mr. Slade, I passed your regards along to Mr. Jackson and he smiled and told me to tell you HELLO! as well.

Sven, I'm sorry, but I can't pass your regards along, as I've already left Seattle.

To answer a couple of earlier questions: 1. Regarding the prospects of a bumper for the Nissan Xterra & Frontier, I was told there are no immediate plans for one. 2. Regarding the front locker for the H3, it is well underway and will be available soon, but unfortunately, I wasn't given any sort of timeline.

Thanks to Mark for answering some of Pierre's questions. I agree, it is a well built tank (as is obvious in the photo). It bolted right up to existing mounting locations so no drilling or cutting of the OEM FJ was required. There was a slight fitment issue with the ARB bumper. A little bit of the left-side material on the underside of the bumper had to be ground off. (It's not visible unless you look underneath, and even then it is hard to tell that it's been trimmed.) As far as the weight goes, it's probably close to 135 lbs or so when full. There are a fresh pair of Old Man Emu 895 springs on the FJ and it sits pretty level with full tanks.

Ok, I have to go feed the parking meter...

Chris, thanks for the update.
I am running the medium 895 as well in the back on my FJ.
Even with the cargobox back there that you saw, I get no sag.

I may have to check into this aux. tank in the future.

It's a nice addition if you'll be traveling far from the pumps.

Hey, here is a pic of the silver ARB FJ next to the famous Corey's silver FJ. Cool!
