Around the world in my Icon. Looking for ideas.

As an ICON owner myself i recommend taking the V8 out and dropping a 2F in. Much more reliable and completely gutless.

Come on people how could you fall for this ****? Everyone knows the ICON 43 won't be out for another few years

I beg to differ.

Money talks, my friend.

Perhaps you spend too much time in the nappy dugout and not enough time making it happen.

2007 Expedition Trophy Champion, Overland Certifie
To truly have the epic trip of a lifetime you need a proper guide.
Climbing Everest is best done with Sherpas, and Round the World Travel is best done with an Overland Certified Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. As rare as that combo is (only a few in the world) I am such a person.
I have a few things on my schedule over the next year but I would be willing to start looking into your travel dates and offer my guide service.
Also as an amputee I can get us through many tough spots based on sympathy yet I am strong & functional enough not to hinder our exploration. And as the winner of the 2007 Expedition Trophy (multi-day, multi-discipline event covering shooting, driving, navigation, recovery, cooking/drink prep and all other aspects of overlanding) I have proven myself in tough, remote and stressful times.
And just so you have a comfort of mind and body I am a Wilderness EMT and ICU RN, so I will be able to put together a med supply list and work with your primary care Dr. by Sat phone.
Having setup a number of vehicles for major Expeditions (like the Continental Divide Expedition) I would be happy to consult with Icon (met those guys a couple of years ago) on your build. Best not to post too many of my ideas publicly as you don't want to have your security or safety effected.

Lastly I am a fluent Spanish speaker (have can get by in Portuguese & Italian) so that will help with quite a number of our travel locations.

Please let me know where I can send my full CV and prepare for a classic grand expedition.

This is a great read... keeps my dull & drab 6:30 - 3:00 interesting!:smiley_drive:

What are the travel plans? Where are you anticipating to go? I know you said around the world, but that's quite vague.

Joking aside, there was a thread over on MUD in the 60 section, that some mechanical engineering students donated and built an HJ-60 from the ground up for a young couple doing GOD's good work in West Africa. You might want to read through it to get an idea of what to consider in your build. Again safety, security and reliability are what I think are the key three elements in your vehicle of choice. But like others have said, having a vehicle built for you, versus at least getting your hands dirty and understanding the what and how your vehicle works and what to do if it breaks is the most critical. Having the mentality of money is no option and being stuck in the middle of the desert, jungle or in a blizzard with nothing or nobody around for miles and miles of remoteness is going be tough. Unless you have a SAT phone that you can call in a rescue team.

Good luck

I know, right?

I see you're driving a 100 now. I just made the switch from the 80 myself in the last month or so. Can't believe I waited so long.

you mocked me when i broke the sunroof and they wacked me 1200 bucks. dont feign ignorance now, little boy.

a 100 the shiznit though. i sold the sbc40 last year to "engineer" on mud, and im rotating mine into wheeling duty. i worry that ill be bored to death on the trails though.

Offers for guidance are greatly appreciated. I am still putting together my team and my support crew, so I will update anyone interested. Exact travel itinerary is not concrete yet, but I will post when it is more clear.

As to safety and security, I will be stripping any indicators of vehicle make off so as not to arouse any undue interest. The top will not be open, there is a custom hardtop in the works, carbon fiber. This will be setup with a rack and whatever I can bolt on and lock down.

Also installing a professionally designed shutdown device that reads on biometrics, this will ensure that anyone who is not programmed into the vehicles recognition system will cause complete electronic failure of the vehicles system until reset by authorized personnel.

Oh, and...bullet resistant glass all around that should deflect small arm calibers such as those from AKs and AR-15s. Not perfect, but gives me an edge.
