Every time I see posts of your truck it makes me miss my old Comanche. A couple of weeks ago I was driving back home from quoting a job and what did I come across. My old MJ sitting in a yard for sale.

As I pulled over thoughts of buying my old friend lept forward until a saw the amount the old boy has declined over the last 12 years since I owned it. The rust was eating it away, there was a huge deer strike on the rear passenger quarter of the bed, the rear bumper was shot and the interior was rotting away. The rust is way worse than the photo shows. When I let it go it had 279,000 miles on it. Someone had added running boards and swapped out the factory grill gaurd for an aftermarket one. They were asking $800 for it. I left it were it was and wished the best for it, feeling a little guilty about leaving it behind all sad and alone in that field.

Was curious how those Flip-Pacs do in high winds, as they are fairly high profile and was wondering how you attach a fly to them when it is raining?

I have yet to expose the Flippac to high winds at this point, however, I can say that my roof top tent experiences at the same height on the previous shell were good. The tent roof height of the Flippac is lower than an RTT and at a lesser angle to the wind so I would assume that wind performance will be better.

The storm cover attaches to the exterior lip of the shell before it is deployed so you don't have to try sling the cover over the top at deployed height. I will be posting pictures of the cover in about 2 weeks as ours is still in process.

I've been in a couple high wind situations. The fundamental stability of the Flippac was good. I've never had any tears or rips in the fabric from even 80 mph gusts (el nino out at the beach)...but of course it wakes me up! After the first high gust situation, I fashioned a piece of 2x3 with notches in each end that I wedge into the middle of the tent when it's REALLY windy...just to be on the safe side. (because the pole structure moves a little in high gusts) I've never had a RTT, so I can't compare the two.

Overall, wind problems have been a non-issue, compared with the benefits - very quick and easy deployment, livable sitting/standing room to change clothes, cook, relax and a really comfy place to sleep...plus in really nice weather it's really open and you "experience" whatever environment you're in.

However, you definitely need a rain cover!

Added Fiamma F-35 1.8 to Flippac today. It is a very nice addition with the added bonus of color matching the MJ & Flippac. The foot-to-body mounts are very solid. There is also a provision for guy lines if it gets really gusty. This model is 5'10" wide and projects 6'. We have two other models available: F-35 2.5 which is 8'2" with 7'5" projection and the F-35 3.0 which is 9'10" wide with 7'5" projection.

An extrusion was added to the Flippac and then the F-35 attached to it. Both the extrusion and F-35 had neoprene foam between them and the body to prevent scratching and seal up mounting hole. Additional holes are run through F-35 and body for final mounting. Only SS hardware was used.

Note the red safety strap....an essential piece of equipment if you frequent washboard roads

Few years back i saw an MJ w/ Flip-Pac on ebay, was rough but i always thought how cool that combination would be. You have reafirmed that.

How common are these that will fit an MJ? Is there another application that fits?

Flippac designed for the Ford Ranger fits with a modification to the front lip of the bed: 2"x2"x1/8" aluminum angle rivited to inside of front bed lip on MJ to provide better seal. This is the case for my standard bed MJ which is 1" longer than the Ranger bed.

Does Flippac make an 05 Taco topper?

I have the short bed version. I looked on their site, but could find much info.

It would be nice to have safe, water/dustproof storeage.

As the family grows I am always looking for ways to stay mobile, keep it simple, and keep everyone happy in the process. Our RTT on top of the Horizon is getting a bit cramped.
