Barn Door for JK factory hardtops

Thank you for the in-depth reply, makes me want to get familiar with sketchup and get after a couple of projects myself! Excited to see how the rear fenders turn out, all the best from Fort Benning Georgia.

Thanks. I'll be working on the mold masters for the fenders this week with the goal of making the molds next week, so the first fenders could come out the molds late next week or the beginning of the following week. At the same time I'll also be working on the tables and Rubican mount for the fridge slide and I'll be doing a few things with windows on the modular hardtop project, and today I'll be getting final LED brackets from the hardware company to install and verify, so lots going on.

Sketchup is a great tool, I keep telling myself I should learn it someday. I currently use two tools for doing concept drawings and design drawings - Microsoft Visio and Corel Paint Shop Pro.

I was just in Pennsylvania. If I'd have known you would be there, I'd have strapped a bike to the tail of the plane, and joined you for a ride. :)
I was talking with the Captain about your Safari top, and asked if we could do a removable top version of this on the plane. He said they tried that once on a trip to Hawaii, but it didn't work out too well.

On the wheel arch trim - I think just keep it simple (option A) since its always possible to just replace the bumper with a straight steel or aluminum channel to give it a more "willy's" look - Like what was done on the Jeep J8 models:

This with the safari cab would be perfect.

Over the course of the JK Safari Cab project, I've done a number of concept drawings of J8/JK8 versions, including this one with swing up hard sides swappable for soft sides... ;)

All it would take is new side panel molds, all the other Safari Cab parts would work on the J8.

Something that might be cool is to form a step about half way up the rear of the fender, and reinforce the fender with aluminum, or metal plate so that the fender could work as a step ladder for access to the rack.
In which case, I'd do option A, but with a thicker rear lip to cover the step. :)

That's an interesting idea... I could do that, but several other "first steps" already exist - when I'm accessing things on my roof rack, I usually step on top of the rear tire. If I needed a second step above that I could use the top of the rear flat fender, I've designed it to be strong enough to serve as a step.

Or, the bumper is a good height to be a first step, in this video I'm using it as a first step to climb up on the Overland Rack, but it could also be a first step with the second step being the top of the rear fender.

With the tire and the bumper to serve as first steps, would there really be a need for another step built into the fender? I'm asking because for me the bumper and tire work great, but I'm 6'6" so maybe someone who's a different size might need the step you suggest?

If someone would just build the top and Barn Door!

I was thinking of the more vertically challenged. ;)
It's nice to take smaller steps when carrying things. Maybe others will chime in on this.

I believe there used to be an ancient device that one who was vertically challenged would be strapped to and then stretched. That way you are no longer challenged Comanche Scott lol. On a separate note I do love having the hinge steps as I can go from rear tire to rear door front door etc without touching the ground to put what ever I need up there. Jeff if you could design a step stool and incorporate it into your design for Comanche that would be great. Hahaha sorry just couldn't resist. :D

This morning in between steps in the rear flat fender project I added a table to the fridge drawer. The tabletop is flush with the top edges of the drawer. I hinged the tabletop with flush-mount hinges so they don't interfere with anything set on the table.

A video of it in operation:

More to come, I plan a fold-down table to attach the the side of the slide and a mount alongside the fridge for a Rubican/Rotopax for dispensing water.

Oh man that looks great Jeff. How about cleaning meaning if I use it to prep food. Meat veggies etc and go to clean it will it affect the silverware underneath. I mean you could easily remove the silverware ahead of time but just a thought. I use the cutting board on my tailgator to cut onion green peppers and tomatoes when prepping fajitas so that was first thing that came to mind was the cleaning of it and will water for instance runoff into the silverware draw. Looks tight with no openings but that did come to mind for cleaning. Outside of that I love this tackles a few things all at once.

Actually I wouldn't even keep silverware down there for me I would keep spices and other smaller food items in there along with maybe plates etc. I really like this a lot.
